A Palestinian ex-detainee reveals torture and harsh conditions in Israeli prisons

A group of Palestinian detainees recently released from Israeli jails near Gaza have detailed the torture and dire conditions they faced while in detention. The detainees, surrounded by their families, spoke of physical and verbal abuse during interrogations, overcrowded cells, disease outbreaks, and minimal food. Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, the Director of Al Shifa Hospital, recounted the harrowing treatment he endured during his eight-month detention. The Palestinian Prisoner Association reports that around 10,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli jails, many without being charged or tried. Despite Israel’s claims of adherence to international law, the testimonies of these detainees suggest otherwise.
