The game of Senior Assassin, played by high school seniors across the country, took a tragic turn for Anakin Zehring from Kansas. While playing the game with friends, Zehring and his classmates fired water guns at a teenage girl. However, the girl’s father, Ruben Contreras, allegedly retaliated with a real gun, shooting Zehring in the back and leaving him paralyzed.

Zehring’s life has been drastically changed as a result of this senseless act of violence. Contreras now faces charges of first-degree attempted murder for his actions. This devastating incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise from participating in games that involve simulated violence, even in a harmless and playful context.

It is a sobering reminder to always consider the potential consequences of our actions, especially when they involve weapons or violence. Our thoughts are with Anakin Zehring as he navigates the difficult road ahead in his recovery from this tragic event.
