Afghanistan's raw materials – The race is on | DW Documentary
Afghanistan possesses an invaluable wealth of mineral resources. Following the Taliban’s takeover, Europe and the US are holding back on investment, while other countries are already jostling for access.
China, Russia, Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan and India see opportunities for economic investment in Afghanistan. The focus is on raw materials that are important for the global energy, technology and industrial sectors. Some of these countries are establishing contacts in the Afghan capital, Kabul. But the country’s strategic location is also of interest. Europe and the US remain cautious, primarily due to political uncertainties, security risks and legal hurdles.

Afghanistan may well be the new mineral wealth, El Dorado of the entire globe. However, it is also one of the most dysfunctional, lawless, fanatical Muslim places on the Earth. No western mining company will touch such a place, the Chinese may feel as though they will get something out of it, however they will probably spend twice as much in security, infrastructure build out and transportation costs as the value of product that they get to ship. Until the Afghan people come to realize that having a secular government that is filled with people who actually are competent at their job rather than loyal to some fanatical religious faith, these resources will remain stuck in the ground and keep Afghanistan in the failed nation status!
China Russia and Iran are the main excavators of these rare earth minerals. So Afghanistan don't need western values 😂😂😂
poor workers. no protection gears at all. and probably near to zero salary
Wishing to have great Afghanistan ❤❤❤❤
Worst documentaries ever made by DW. I'm boycotting DW from today for their such biased and yellow journalism.
We've turned into ants 😂
Hey EU and NATO, Ukraine is home to roughly one-third of all European lithium reserves (estimated at 500,000+ tonnes). Just saying.
They'll be accused of nuclear enrichment before they realise US bombs all over
I guess windmills use a lot of REs, particularly neodymium for magnets….
No companies are going to invest there unless things are sold way below market rate. Because of the instability there's nothing to protect their investment. And until that changes not much else will either.
I'm not saying that's a good thing, but just the way it is.
Indian government should invest heavy in this
Oh no, this means the US will now find WMD’s in Afghanistan. 😢
The Taliban regime offers no guarantees to investors, and it’s hard to imagine any rational investor putting money into that country, particularly those from the West.
Warum wird das aus meinen Steuern bezahlt? 🫠
Value of the minerals is irrelevant without an economical way to transport them to be processed
Die Taliban werden sich freuen über eine stabile Einnahmequelle.
Artisanal mining (often grouped as Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining or ASM) is the manual, low-technology extraction and processing of minerals and precious metals. It operates largely in the informal economy and plays a major role in global supply chains and local economies.
Allah the merciful unless you have some different laws or philosophy or whichever another reason and be stoned to death in public.
Great news for Afghanistan & the region.
Western be like "let's bring democracy to Afghanistan again".
Me in western: "you want revolution? My tax money belong here, not to exploiting resources in foreign countries"
US was there for twnty years for nothing
Lowkey does a good piece of Journalism on Double Down News about Afghanistan since you seem to be leaving out a lot of info. You would be surprised to hear since its not talked about on any mainstream platform because it would go against what people are normally told about why and what happened
They look like cave men trying work , there government is too unstable they will kill each other before it ever gets started.
China must be put outside the West economic system. Nothing China can do should effect the West.
Change your old ways first before entering the new Afghanistan
first minute in… i question they are very deficit in simple fabric to place over face to reduce miners lung
This is why the great powers want Afghanistan.😅
This video is old! One year ago or two.
Trump: Afghanistan needs some freedom so we need to help them….
