Heard of the book series. Interesting movie. The scene where Vespasian charges Falco the tax for the freeing of slaves is PURE Vespasian.

This movie has a very interesting production story, spanning about 30 years. Author Lindsey Davis wrote a series of about 20 books about a private investigator in Rome, whose name was Marcus Didius Falco. The first book was The Silver Pigs.
It was adapted as a made for TV movie by Columbia Pictures Television. Age of Treason is the result, and it was obviously created with the intent of possibly continuing it as a regular TV series. I don’t know what stopped that from occurring, but the book author expressed that she was unhappy with this result. I don’t really know why, since it had very good production values.
Anyway, it later appeared as a short lived radio series. And then it was optioned for a TV series again, and the plans fell through just within the past few years. Who knows if it will ever become a TV series? It’s an interesting premise, and there are about 20 books to read if you care to. The author, Lindsey Davis, is currently 75 years old, and I don’t know what her future plans are.
Not even 15 minutes in, and I’m already enjoying this. Ancient Rome told from a modern perspective, similar to how A Knight’s Tale was contemporary. Very similar style.
Serious adventure, but with a light hearted comedic twist. Very entertaining. 👍
