A terrifying moment was captured on camera as an American Airlines Boeing 737 was forced to abort takeoff after one of its wheels burst into flames at Tampa International Airport in Florida. The footage, posted on YouTube by plane spotter Captain Steven Markovich, shows the plane gaining speed on the runway when its right tire starts to smoke and eventually catches fire.
In the video, Markovich shouts, “A blown tire! Emergency, emergency, emergency. They’re on fire!” The radio communication between the flight crew can be heard saying “Abort” and “We’ve got a blown tire” as smoke billows out from the plane’s landing gear.
This incident caused a moment of panic for passengers and crew alike, but thankfully, no injuries were reported. The quick response by the pilots and emergency crew prevented a potential disaster from occurring.
