Apple Execs Address Siri Struggles and AI Vision at WWDC 2025
At this year’s WWDC 2025, held in Cupertino, Apple’s top executives faced tough questions regarding the company’s artificial intelligence initiatives during a candid discussion with WSJ’s Joanna Stern. As the tech giant strives to cement its position in the AI landscape, the past few years have seen a rocky rollout marked by delays and lackluster features, especially concerning Siri and Apple Intelligence.
Siri: The Delayed Evolution
Kicking off the discussion, Joanna Stern delved into the ongoing challenges Apple has faced with Siri. The voice assistant, once hailed as a groundbreaking innovation, has hit roadblocks that have left users and industry insiders wondering about its future. Craig Federighi, Apple’s software chief, acknowledged the delays and difficulties in advancing Siri’s capabilities. He detailed how the company is reallocating resources to ensure that the next iterations will not only meet but exceed user expectations. Federighi emphasized the importance of building a robust neural network to enhance Siri’s understanding of complex queries and user intent.
Apple Intelligence: A Struggle to Shine
The conversation then shifted to Apple Intelligence, a feature that faced criticism for its underwhelming performance and limited rollout. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s marketing head, defended the application, explaining that the team has been working diligently to refine its functionalities. He recognized that Apple Intelligence has not yet lived up to its promise and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ongoing improvements. Joswiak underscored that as the tech landscape rapidly evolves, Apple remains focused on creating AI that complements user experience rather than overwhelming them with complexity.
Looking Ahead: Apple’s AI Vision
Concluding the conversation, both executives articulated a forward-looking vision for Apple’s role in AI technology. Federighi outlined a roadmap where increased investments in machine learning and artificial intelligence will play a crucial role. The goal, he suggested, is to create a seamless integration of AI across various Apple platforms, ultimately enhancing everyday tasks and improving user interaction.
As Apple continues its journey into AI, the dialogue at WWDC 2025 highlighted both the challenges and the company’s dedication to overcoming them. With executive commitment and strategic operational shifts, Apple aims to reshape the perception of its AI offerings, starting with a smarter, more responsive Siri.
In a rapidly changing tech landscape, Apple’s future in AI could hinge on how effectively it addresses past missteps, promising a journey worth watching.

Looks like Apple team is very nervous about reality of Apple intelligence. They know that they are unable to compete with Google, Meta for AI…I feel like Apple is going in the same path how Nokia once did it and lost the game…
I love how direct she is: „last year you announced an AI driven Siri… where is she!?“. I fell from my chair laughing
This shows what apple is presenting its AI is by just CGI movie level graphics.
Its a shame he said no one is doing good. Everyone except apple is doing great.
Good direct interview by Joanna. Straight to the point👏👏
Tight privacy, high quality standard and generative AI won't work right away but hopefully it could work in the near future.
bruh but why apple want to make ai automation on device why they dont do it on cloud may be on apples cloud =, might be it will solve there all problem
I will be surprised if Craig is still at Apple…or perhaps his last major media interview..he struggled all through.
Wow never seen Apple execs squirm like this. Feels like a real uh oh moment.
The walk of shame 😅
I know junior PMs that are better at coming up with explanations and excuses. And they don't make millions.
She is not beating around the bush like most of the fake journalists.
Tim Cook must resign. Apple has become a fashion company instead of a tech company. Notch, Liquid Glass – I mean, who approved this mess? Steve would never want this.
Yes there were some tough questions but why didn't she ask about the blatant, global false advertising for iPhone 16? Why didn't she asked how the class action lawsuit is going?
Bezos curated the questions she asked 😂
I don't think they had bad answers. Apple promised something and they failed. I think they are long enough in the business to be confident and know that they will recover from that and deliver eventually with a high standard. Really loved how Joanna Stern pushed them but I don't see this snippet of the interview as a loss for apple. They could be a bit more sorry for underdelivering though
Great replies to tough questions. Whether you believe it or not, I think they’re doing some things really really well, and perhaps developing themselves in other ways. There’s no way to create a final product in its first release. So I commend the two of them for explaining Apple’s approach so well.
Siri is the biggest piece of garbage
To be fair no one is doing it well enough to be implemented in a phone. And the companys working on it are not small either. So Apple shouldnt be held to a higher standard compared to samsung, google, microsoft. All big companies and probably not there yet with AI in phones either.
I just want auto reply to texts and calls without having to select driving focus. The feature has been there all along it just needs to be freed. Instead we get a “glass” mod. I’m honestly at this point just going to have to figure out how to work between my IPad (it has Procreate) and an Android.
That's what we call real interviewing.. 🎉🎉
Note to the managers: Joanna and Nilay Patel are the only two authorised to carry out these spicy interviews 😂
Apple users will still use apple 🍎, no matter , it is a religion
I've done over 3,000 tech interviews for the biggest companies. Apple software engineers were by far the worst of any engineers I've interviewed. Only "knew" Java and couldn't code a simple for loop in most cases. Apple's baffling incompetence has never been a mystery for me, they have the dumbest people under Craig (who's a fun guy but an incompetent snake), save for very few solid teams.
Never seen Craig Federighi so uneasy in front of a camera, the lack of eye contact with the journalist is so out of character 😮
Common do a chat bot
Amazing journalism, gotta love it
That's a PR consultant answer to those questions
Their mistake is that they caved into investor demand and announced something before it was done. It's not something they need to admit publicly but inside I hope they get it together and realize investors do not have the company's best interest at heart and work furiously to catch up with the missed expectation.
This is how interviews should be
Ya, they don't have any idea
