In the heart of Macau, where fortunes are won and lost in an instant, Lord Doyle (Colin Farrell) finds himself trapped in a spiraling descent of gambling and despair. Once a man of stature, Doyle now leads a life of anonymity—drunk, broke, and hiding from the consequences of his reckless decisions. With debts piling up and no way out, fate intervenes in the form of Dao Ming (Fala Chen), a secretive casino employee with her own hidden agenda. As their paths intertwine, secrets begin to unravel, and Doyle’s last chance for redemption hangs by a thread.
Directed by Rowan Joffe and featuring a stellar cast including Tilda Swinton, Ballad of a Small Player delves deep into themes of madness, desperation, and the haunting power of chance.
