Bless the Beasts and Children: An Emotional Journey of Redemption
Director: Stanley Kramer
Writer: Stephen E. Ambrose
Starring: Bill Mumy, Barry Robins, Miles Chapin, Jesse White
“Bless the Beasts and Children,” directed by the legendary Stanley Kramer, is a poignant coming-of-age drama that delves into the lives of six misfit teenage boys at a summer camp. Known as the “Bedwetters,” these outcasts are rejected by their families and peers, each carrying their own scars and pain.
Set against a backdrop of impending tragedy, the boys learn of a government culling program that threatens a herd of buffalo. Driven by a sense of urgency and empathy, they embark on a daring nighttime mission to save these innocent creatures from slaughter. This act becomes more than just a rescue; it’s a quest for purpose and redemption, reflecting their own struggles and desires for a better life.
As they navigate the complexities of adolescence, the film beautifully illustrates themes of friendship, courage, and the desire for acceptance. Each character is thoughtfully fleshed out, allowing viewers to connect with their heartfelt journeys. The emotional weight of the story is amplified by Kramer’s skilled direction and the sincere performances of the cast, particularly Mumy, Robins, and Chapin.
“Bless the Beasts and Children” serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion—both towards oneself and the world around us. In seeking to save the buffalo, these boys ultimately strive to salvage their own shattered identities, making the film not just a narrative of rescue, but a profound exploration of hope and healing.

Underappreciated Carpenters song as theme.
Young and the restless began in 1973, took the music from this, 1971 film.
This makes Stand By Me look like Citizen Kane. These kids can’t act, besides awful screenplay.
Which came first this or young and the restless soap?
This movies was traumatizing…
Such a good movie.
the song Bless the Beasts and the Children by Karen Carpenter was played on Young and Restless in 1981 at the end of the Snapper Chucky story.
the music at the end of the movie is the Young and Restless theme.
MY DAYS, I GRAD HIGH SCHOOL IN 1973. SO SAD FOR US WHO DONT FIT IN FOR WHATEVER REASON.
RI CEN
🌕🎱🌕
If I had been at that camp, I definitely would have been one of the bedwetters. But I'll be damned if I would have let those bastards see my cry when they threw piss on me. Instead of "church on fire", I would have been saying "fuck you"!
Tenia 13 o 14 años cuando fui al cine a ver esa peli… a partir de ahi, me converti en ecologista radical extremista vegetariano naturista.. ahora, solo soy un amante de los carpenters, sobre todo de karen ❤❤❤
Made in 1971, with Bill Mumy (whom I've met twice setting up his band 'Seduction of the Innocent') and pshht, I was 7 when this came out… But I got to see it a couple of years after it's release (at camp, ironically)…. and it really stuck with me… and then nothing, never saw it again, (not even on TV) till now…. Thank you so much for posting this wonderfully messed up masterpiece, I've been looking for it for a long time. <3
We laughed so hard at the headphone scene haha
The first time I saw this was middle school in the 7th grade in the late 70s. The last day of school before our Christmas week vacation they gathered the whole school into the auditorium and always let us watch a movie. Another one was chitty chitty bang bang. Then when it was finished they played it in reverse double speed. haha
They forced us to watch this in 8th grade. The subject was traumatic. FYI. Animals are harmed.
