In a recent interview, former National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump, John Bolton, has issued a warning to Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney as he prepares to navigate the complex and often contentious relationship with the United States. Bolton cautioned against attempting to improve Canada-US relations by simply matching the tactics and rhetoric of the Trump administration. With his insider knowledge of the inner workings of the Trump White House, Bolton suggests that Carney should approach diplomacy with caution and a more nuanced strategy.
Bolton’s advice comes at a critical time for Canada-US relations, as Prime Minister Carney faces the challenge of balancing the needs and interests of Canada while also addressing the shifting dynamics under the Biden administration. With the recent changes in leadership in both countries, there is an opportunity for a reset in the relationship between the two allies. However, Bolton’s warning serves as a reminder that simply mirroring the tactics of the previous administration may not lead to positive outcomes for Canada.
As Carney navigates the complex terrain of international relations, he must carefully consider his approach to dealing with the United States. Bolton’s insights highlight the importance of understanding the nuances of diplomacy and the potential pitfalls of relying on aggressive or confrontational tactics in dealings with the US. By heeding Bolton’s advice and adopting a more measured and strategic approach, Carney may be able to build a stronger and more cooperative relationship with the United States, ultimately benefiting both countries in the long run.

Trump is the master of misinformation. Because he just doesn’t know, and doesn’t want to know.
I don’t think anything that Carney does will matter except do what Trump wants.
And since that is out of the question, you do what he hates most, that oppose him in a smarter way than he is imposing tariffs now. And they are, kudos to Canada!!
Just like any mutual fund investment, Canada must diversify its trading portfolio to the rest of the world — shore up relations with stable and like-minded allies.
Chinese EV tariff is an American demand that Canada simply does not have any reason to abide by. Canada should choose to and trade with China; bring those Chinese EVs to Canada. Heck, that may even be a good reason for America to come back to the table. ….. but nah, I want more affordable EV for Canadian winter instead.
Why the f does anyone still listen to Bolton?
Wrong, Mr. Bolton! Mr. Trump, has by his actions, destroyed US-Canada relations, and will continue to do so. Improving those relations, depends on Mr. Trump, which you know, full well, he will not do. He'll continue to bully, manipulate, threaten and insult Canada. Why would Carney subject himself to that? You, Mr. Bolton are a subject of your now president, turned king, along with the rest of the US population. Being the polite Canadian, I would wish what is stated on your Declaration of Independence, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for "all" it's citizens…
40.1 mil. Pop. of Canada vs. 340.1 mil. Pop. in the U.S.. We Canadians need to wake up and face reality. It's about being subjugated and bending the knee to become a vassal State of the United States! The only other viable option we have for security and trade is to join a stable union. That leaves only The European Union. What happened to Austria in the 1930's when Hitler took over Germany? Look at Ukraine! WAKE UP! After Sec. of Def. Hegseth installs his Trump loyalest in senior levels of the U.S. Military command structure who's going to stop Trump from using HIS Military? We should have already started the paperwork to become a member of the European Union! 🇨🇦 🇪🇺 Let's do it B4 the Tanks show up!
Scorched earth
Improve Relations??? F*** off with that. Canadians need to move on with other relationships and if relations need to get improved with the US then let them initiate that.
Bolton is a treacherous backstabber and constant liar and warmonger. Total WEF tool.
john bolton the chicken hawk clown
Have to say I’m not over concerned about the majority of Americans right now. Between those that voted for that monster and those that didn’t vote at all, Trump is there problem not ours.
Our Prime Minister DOES NOT sound like Donald Trump. GLOBAL News STOP apologizing for Trump.
well Canadians don't care about relations atm since we are pissed and still in the boiling water, what we want is to end the trade war and the threats on Canada. starting the healing process of the relation is the USA's job initially. we Canadians will not forget but we do tend to forgive eventually.
It's crazy how many Republicans have worked for Trump and indicate that the guy is a political anomaly. Despite all that, people still follow him, what's the problem, people in the US don't go to school, don't listen to the news, believe in Santa Claus?
Well Nouvelle -France was going all over from Canada to Louisiana… Just too bad France forgot about US…. and Let the British take over….lol
Why would it change , carney is trudoughs step cousin so the fix is in
America has already set up a committee to figure out how to govern Canada. It's happening right now . Over half of Canada will be the 51st state within 4 years.
What a joke. An unemployed diplomat telling us how to react to abuse is like a mother-in-law telling you not to overreact when your drunk spouse punches you. I don't think he understands that the relationship is beyond repair and we're already on Tinder looking for new partners.
He does not need the rest of the planet
Is he going to take over the world
Donald ?
We Canadians are WAY past trying to improve CAN-US relationship. We are angry and in this fight to win. The US will take their tarif off the table or we will continue to match them dollar per dollar. All Canadians, from one ocean to the other, irrespecttively of political affiliation, are united in this fight and we will NOT bend. The US and Trump must be taught to be respectful and to treat their allied appropriately, or else. The US are isolating themselves while the whole world (except for Russia and Chian…) is against them. It won't end well for them.
From what im picking up on from my fellow Canadians is they feel they same as I. Done with the USA. For atleast 4 years the US is going to have Tump as prez and Republicans not stopping him bcs this what they want. This is why they picked trump.
Is Bolton all the sudden a canadian friend? That guy is the devil.
Thinking we care abt improving "relations" as if we're in the wrong & need to fix it…that's cute but we expect an apology & we won't ever forget ur lucky if we forgive & i personally co-sign the AMCAN divorce time to move on the U.S can't be trusted as a reliable trading partner time to diversify.
Mr Bolton

Canada doesn't need improve their relationship with the US.
How does a "Convicted Criminal" get elected? That could never happen in Canada. How does an "Elected Convicted Criminal" have so much power as to attack the judiciary, private individuals and companies, the bureaucracy, disrespect other sovereign nations, and anything the bully wants to control. NO ONE should have that kind of power. And he thinks Canadians would tolerate that? Only misinformed twits would want that.
Yup weak woke left never understand this is going down hill for Canada
😂 u R such a joke.
Forget the U.S. and start working on US. Make US ( meaning Canada) self sufficient and work with our true Allies to build a strong relationship , not just as trading partners but world leaders to make each stronger. The U.S is weak without its allies and right now Canada is in the position to welcome the world.
