Just imagine, all those man hours building a big bomber and to have many of turned into scrap metal in seconds, or even a fraction of a second.
My dad was a B-17 pilot, flew over 35 missions, never lost a crewmember or his plane…sure wish he was still around to tell me his stories again. 1st Lt.Paul Bodi jr
Misleading at 18:45 : narration talks about the attack on Cologne on 13/14 March 1942, but the photo shown was taken on 24th of April 1945.
At 23:48 on operation Chastice: "The targets were three dams in the Ruhr valley" is wrong, only two dams in the Ruhr valley were targets, the Moehne and the Sorpe.
Thank you very good ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍
What really amazes me is the mechanics Who kept the shot up aircraft in the air. The B17 was a very complex machine.
B17 was slow, carried a smaller bomb load at a shorter range than a Lancaster or even a mosquito. The young men flying them were beyond brave.
What a heap of Yank BULLSHIT . The early 8th Army Airforce unescorted ( YEE HAW GUNG HO ) missions in August/September were so bad with over 75% of losses that from October to February 1943 missions were CANCELLED until competent fighters were available to escort the awful B 17 ; also the almost worthless Norden bombsight was a myth .

The men of Bomber Command had the highest casualty rate of any branch of the services. Yet they were treated shamefully after the war, with no campaign medals and no participation in the victory parades. It wasn't until 2012 that there was a memorial erected for their 55,573 dead. In a war for survival they simply gave back to Nazi Germany what they had given us in the Blitz. It is curious that the men of the 8th Air Force were not treated like that, and are regarded as the heroes they were.
It is incredible and eye opening to learn that the 8th Air Force lost more men than all the Marines did during the South Pacific theater of war. Bomber pilot washout at 40% was pretty high! What a horror to be an airman inside a bomber during these runs.
Many US pilots from WW2 were shit pilots
The background pinging ended it immediately.
Poor Luftwaffe! …
No one mentioned the Halifax MkIII and 5. Tough planes. Could take a pounding.
Also the average life expectancy was maybe 8 to 10 tours Brave airmen
the mustang was the end of the air war for the Germans the mustang could out fly the 109
Totally cool hearing Les Munros' voice again. Had the pleasure of taking him and his lovely lady Christine for a skydive in 2008.
Stop playing music while you're explaining something. You wouldn't do that when you're talking to a doctor on the phone, for example.
