California has taken legal action against oil giant ExxonMobil, accusing the company of engaging in a “decades-long campaign of deception” regarding plastics recycling. The state’s attorney general claims that ExxonMobil used misleading marketing tactics to convince consumers that single-use plastics could be recycled, when in reality, the majority end up polluting the environment.
The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, alleges that ExxonMobil’s promotion of plastic recycling as a solution to the pollution crisis has only exacerbated the problem. By spreading misinformation about the recyclability of plastics, the company has contributed to the widespread contamination of oceans, landfills, and ecosystems.
According to the state’s attorney general, the lawsuit aims to hold ExxonMobil accountable for its role in perpetuating the myth of plastic recycling. By challenging the company’s deceptive practices, California hopes to raise awareness about the need for more sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics.
This legal action comes amid growing concerns about the environmental impact of plastic pollution and calls for greater corporate responsibility in tackling the crisis. As governments and organizations around the world work to address the issue, the case against ExxonMobil highlights the urgent need for more transparency and accountability in the plastics industry.

A couple of years ago, a German firm was looking at technology to cleanly burn plastics for fuel but sadly no updates since. 🙁
Everyone in the recycling business knows that plastic (90%) can't be recycled.
Here in Greece they transform it to a product called RDF which is cubes of plastic to be burned in energy hungry industries
Finally California learned about it.
About time! Plastic bottles were originally put on to market because the glass bottling industry didn’t want to have to pay local communities to pick up all of the litter from their product. Lazy greedy companies ruining it for everyone.
