The Canadian government recently announced an expansion of its firearms ban, adding 324 more makes and models of guns to the list of prohibited weapons. This decision comes after the ban of 1,500 other firearms four years ago. The aim of this ban is to address gun violence and crime in the country, but the effectiveness of such restrictions is being questioned by many.
Law enforcement perspective on the impact of the ban on national gun violence and crime is crucial. In an interview with crime commentator Hank Idsinga, Global’s Miranda Anthistle delves into this issue to understand how this new program could potentially reduce gun violence and crime in Canada. The government is working on a buyback program for banned weapons from individual owners, in collaboration with provinces, territories, and police.
The reaction to this expansion of the firearms ban has been mixed, with some supporting the move as a step towards addressing gun violence, while others remain skeptical about its effectiveness. The debate surrounding gun control and the impact of such measures on crime rates continues to be a hot topic in Canada.
As the country grapples with the issue of gun violence, it is important to consider all perspectives and potential solutions. The effectiveness of the firearms ban expansion in reducing gun violence and crime remains to be seen, but it is a step that the government has taken in an effort to address a pressing issue in Canadian society.

there has not been a death with a legal handgun owner since the 1970s … the guns that are used come from the usa .. the libertards are very out of touch and not fixing the problem at all
The gun problem is a boarder problem. It’s a Trudeau problem. No one is going to the trouble to legally acquire a firearm to commit a crime.
What an absolutely stupid question given the failure of the last ban. When can we have real media?
The short answer is no. The long answer is, I have been a sport shooter for over 40 years. I shoot every Sunday Morning with men and women of all ages. One gentleman in a wheelchair gets dropped off by his wife on the way to church where he can take part in a sport that has zero physical boundaries. For years I have followed every law and go above what is necessary to keep my firearms locked up and safe. Our firearms, contrary to the narrative, are NOT on the streets. They are either locked in a safe or used at a licensed range. Contrary to what the Liberals will tell you, I don't own any "Military Grade" Assault Style Weapons of war. In fact they have told the public that my "Scary Looking" 22LR rifle is too dangerous for me to own. I am a law abiding retired man who has never hurt anyone or broken any laws yet my government would portray me as criminal. You may not own or like firearms which I can appreciate, but if we don't stand up for each other when this government tries to confiscate our property then when they come for your home equity or ban the particular vehicle that you drive you will be left wondering how this could be happening. It's easy to pass laws that law abiding citizens will follow, It's a lot tougher to actually fight the gang bangers that are using guns in their illegal drug trade. At the end of the day, taking firearms away from those that actually follow the law is a waste of resources and a slap in the face.
This report is spot-on! The questions and answers cover everything. I’m a big fan of the RCMP! They’re dealing with a lot of bad guys who make everyone look bad. The RCMP knows who the criminals are, and they’re showing Canadians, even after the gun ban, that we still have criminals. This helps separate people who own firearms with a license from criminals. I think the ban will make it clearer for everyone where the problem is and once that’s addressed, I believe the government might help those with firearms licenses regain the trust and privilege they had before.
No. It will not. Professionally speaking.
No
Lol rhetorical question ❓
Anyone with one brain cell knows this has nothing to do with safety. This disarms the law abiding while the criminals stay armed up. It's about total disarmament no different than Lennon, Mao, Mussolini, Hitler and Chaves. Just add Trudeau to that list of tyrants,
No, how is banning hunting rifles from the people not committing crime effective gun control?
It's almost like the Liberals and Poly love to remind people to give them money while they dance on the victims graves…
This Ban will do nothing, just like the last two, crime is skyrocketing, Justin has spent $70M on this and no guns have been bought back and crime is skyrocketing. focus on where the guns are coming from, this is an embarisiment to Canada.
Why do they always show previously banned guns, not the new list?
Why can't people understand that this is just another political ploy.
Pistols are already the most regulated firearm.
More guns you take away from law-abiding citizens just make it easier for criminals.
Canada needs a 2nd Amendment type of law
The government wants to disarm all of its citizens because they have something planned that people are gonna get pissed off and they won’t be able to protect themselves against the tyranny of the government. Just look at other countries what they did to them.
Short answer, no. Long answer, still no except it makes the ppl who support this look even more unintelligent.
This will do zero to increase public safety. Legitimate gun owners are of the most responsible citizens and strictly adhere to the already incredibly overwhelming gun laws. It's absolutely laughable to think criminals are going to start abiding by any laws. Especially when there is little to no consequences for them and crime is so lucrative.
Communism
Liberals only want criminals to have firearms.
This wont end anything
Short answer? No.
Preventing me from using my guns will not prevent a criminal from using his or hers.
What should we ban to reduce grapes I wonder?
Same argument
Gun control groups watch way to much TV and need to understand, pretty much every story they are watching or reading, is an American story. We are being blamed for what goes in America, they are complaining about an American issue.
They could iust have an election
1:50 "I'm not saying that it's an unnecessary ban, but it certainly does not affect the amount of firearms on the streets…". Does that not mean unnecessary? Notice that the places with the highest gun violence have the most government gun control…
As usual Liberals have no idea what they are doing with firearms. And I say this as a Liberal voter in the past, just so people don't think I'm kind of right wing fanboy.
more fluff, gun nutters acting hysterical. as usual the list is stuff you wouldn't get anyway. Unless you are going to tell me you need that Browning M3 .50 anti aircraft gun for "self defense"
There are about 4,500 privately owned businesses that sell firearms for hunting and shooting sports, and who employ around 25,000 employees, who have just been financially decimated by this political stunt pulled to gain votes. Nobody talks about these employees, businesses and business owners. Remember, there has been no buyback program to put in place.
No… of course not. Do you actually not know this?
Mixed ? If you get money from government to pick on a side, your opinion should be discarded. Period.
Legal gun owners will be voting the Liberals out of office in the next election just like they did when the liberals came up with their ludicrous gun registry that did nothing to address gun crime!
The answer is no
Trudeau ego is at it again
Here is a parallel question. If banning guns from law abiding citizens curbs gun crimes then why wouldn’t banning alcohol ban drunk driving?
Answer, criminals don’t follow the law.
This is useless and will do absolutely nothing. It’s just one more step towards totalitarianism by this liberal government.
They showed allot of assault rifles in this firearms piece that have been banned for many years now. The guns they're banning now are assault looking guns they say, like 22 caliber guns for small pests or some birds. Other guns are hunting guns that are bolt action and are not semi automatic. This is an attack on law abiding citizens in Canada by a government who is probably the most authoritarian dictatorship to ever have raised it's head in this country. They have eroded our rights and freedoms, attacked citizens who lawfully protest against it's lies and have punished the middle class over and over again. GDP is plunging and productivity is stagnant, and on and on!!!!
When the goverment does something and it's a failed and than they do the same thing over over again they are either stupid or they do it on purpose I think it's both remember paul Martin gun registry FAILERS LIBERALS
No. Because the gun violence is being done by illegal firearms, not legally owned ones.
There's noore guns left for law abiding cityzens oh yeah the criminals have them all
No just legalize it
A simple no
No!!!
Criminals don't care about regulations, the law and especially gun registration!
Especially when you have a national catch and release program.
The answer is no.
Trump wants illegal immigration and drugs to stop going south. How about he stops the illegal guns coming north.
about 1800 people die in canada every year due to firearms. Out of that number there is about 145 people murdered with firearms, Rest of it is suicide ( about 81%) accidents and unitentional deaths, Now , out 145 cases of murder where firearms are used in about 96% cases the firearms are illegal and unregistered. So you can figure out what kind of impact this new ban will have . Close to none. Even though our current government is not exactly sharpest tools in the shed , even they know that. So what is the reason ??
