Celebrating Canada Day Amid Uncertainty
On July 1, 2025, Canadians across the nation came together to celebrate Canada Day, marking the 158th anniversary of the country’s confederation. This year’s festivities felt particularly poignant, as many citizens grappled with the complexities of Canada’s relationship with the United States. David Akin reported from the nation’s capital, where crowds gathered to demonstrate national pride against a backdrop of political and economic uncertainty that has left many Canadians questioning what the future holds.
The day’s celebrations were not only a testament to national unity but also an occasion for introspection. Relations with the U.S. have been increasingly strained, prompting a renewed sense of identity among Canadians. From parades and fireworks to community gatherings, the patriotic spirit resonated in every corner of the country. The unity displayed during these celebrations showcased resilience and camaraderie in the face of international challenges.
Yet, amid the jubilant atmosphere, serious discussions were unfolding as more than 160 charities voiced their concerns regarding the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)—a food distribution initiative reportedly backed by American and Israeli interests. Redmond Shannon highlighted the calls for the GHF’s disbandment, covering the implications of such a move and the responses from the Israeli government. This issue serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between humanitarian efforts and geopolitical alliances.
In the United States, significant legislative developments are also sending ripples across the border. Following an exhausting 24-hour voting session, U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed "Big, Beautiful Bill" has finally passed the Senate. Candice Cole examined the potential overhaul this legislation could impose on the American economy, unveiling both the support and criticism it faces from within the Republican Party. The ramifications of this bill are being closely watched in Canada, where economic interdependence makes such changes a matter of national interest.
Further commemorating Canadian spirit, Darrell Fox, brother of the legendary Terry Fox, embarked on his "National Ride of Hope," honoring the remarkable legacy of his sibling’s Marathon of Hope. Anne Gaviola spoke to Darrell about the funds he has raised for cancer research and the memories forged during his inspiring journey across the country. His dedication reflects the enduring impact of Terry Fox’s vision and the collective strength of Canadians in the fight against cancer.
As the fireworks fade and the celebrations conclude, Canadians are left to reflect on their identity, the values they uphold, and the path forward in a rapidly changing world. The 158th Canada Day was not just a celebration of the past but a moment to rally together for an uncertain future.

Went to the park in the city I am in, in the BC Interior. Yet another celebration of "multinationalism" with Bollywood dancers and international food vendors. 3/4 of the people in the park were foreigners. Once again, the firework show is banned. Desperate RCMP and CAF had booths up trying to recruit domestics that no longer go to such events. Another humiliation ritual celebrating the successful invasion and defeat of the Canadian nation.
With conflicted Carney leading us, of course, the country's future is uncertain. He's already lied numerous times. He's trying to do things that will hurt Canadians more, such as the digital sales tax, he can't negotiate or even stand up for us to save his life.
Global, please stop repeating catch phrases designed to mean the opposite of what they refer to. Trump knows it’s not “beautiful”.
As multigenerational Albertan I say Long live Canada !
Happy 51st state day
😊👏👏👏👏👏👏🇨🇦❤️✌️
😊👏👏👏👏👏👏🇨🇦❤️✌️
We screwed ourselves because we became weak.

Shows how biased canadian media is these days. Canada has never been so divided. But i guess when you only poll major liberal cities, you get the results you want. Maybe liberals should focus on actually bringing canadians together instead of saying it and doing the opposite.
I'm an American but as a young girl we often visited Canada since we lived "next door." As an adult I'm farther away but still regard
Canada with respect and affection. I still have relatives there although most are some younger than I. Happy
Canada Day!
Canada has forever been broken! Thanks to the Liberals of over 10 years changing the way of life!!
Its simple. Quebec and Ontario killed Canada. Bravo
The crowd is very low energy like Carney.
liberals destroyed our great canada
Comments are open today!
Canada is a joke
Facing an uncertain future???? No canada's future is most certainly f_cked, and that's by design. All the Mr. Burns ghouls like Carney will make damn sure of that. The party is over.
Gats are going crazy
Soneone in Canada will make it 51 state
Soon, day of the rake will come Canadians.
Carney, you left Canada 40 yrs ago. Your only here to make money in the corruption infested Liberal party. What a joke. Go on your summer vacation while the rest of Canadians continue to be driven to unemployment, food shortages, homelessness and greater violence on the streets. Who voted in the Liberals???? My National Pride is gone.
I'm not interested in it this year
Happy India Day!
I think they have to start by letting doctors and the general public know what "advance care nursing" is. Someone asked me if I wanted to be treated by a nurse instead of a doctor, and I said no because I assumed the nurse would be just as intermittently helpful as our Alberta Healthline.
What is up with the Rosicrucian maple leaf type logo? Trudeau last spoke in front of a podium featuring a maple leaf encircled with a victory laurel wreath. What is up with that?
Alberta independence

The American president is not a problem. Our WEF Prime Minister is.
I live in Toronto and English is not a language spoken walking around anywhere
Happy birthday Canindia
I just got home from Canada Day in Abbotsford, B.C. , i felt like i was visiting another country, most of the music was Indian music…Ive lived in 5 of our 10 provinces in my 47 yrs born in this country, the future for my daughter will be that of other cultures and none of what I grew up to. Our Government has done a number
Canada Day has nothing to be celebrated of in such a political correct society like nowadays.
My family and friends didn’t celebrate nor did we see anyone else celebrating Canada day – why? Because this is not the Canada we bled to create and keep this is a liberal dystopian nightmare
Carney is the worst
United States of India
A uncertain future? What you talking about? We burned the house down once.
Every time they talk about Terry Fox, I cannot help remembering Steve Fonyo, who picked up Terry's challenge in 1986 and ran his one legged race across Canada all the way. It took him 14 months, raising 13 million dollars for the cause.
Only the idiots are celebrating. The rest of us are annoyed with the media trying to gaslight us into patriotism. It's a lie, most of us are very unhappy.
We have leaders, federal and provincial, who fly around the world on our tax dollars making deals for other rich elites and themselves. These are not civil servants, they can’t even balance budgets, we need a new system!
What Canada. We are the world's door matt. Or India of the north . Diluted.
Thanks belly up
Metis Albertan for Indepence!!
Poor me! Nothings ever good enough! Boo hoo hoo! 🎻🎻🎻🎻Try living in a starving and war torn country. That should sober you up.
Wow!!! Bots and trolls galore on here! Canadians are pumped and excited to have Carney! All these negative comments are pure crap
Carney sucks ⏰’s
Meh, i didnt celebrate today, even though its my birthday. I haven't felt very Canadian since the election.
Bad headline….we don’t have an uncertain future. Canada will always be Canada.
Literally no one IRL is happy with the direction this country has taken.
just read these comments as our overlords dictate to us the new branding of our country
Oh no no! Carney is just the man to get us into sunny days! Thank a Liberal!
Keep voting Liberal for more uncertainty!
