After decades of searching for a permanent place to store Canada’s radioactive nuclear waste, a site has finally been chosen near Northwestern Ontario. This decision comes after years of deliberation and consultation with various stakeholders, including local communities, Indigenous groups, and environmental organizations.
The chosen site is located far away from any major population centers, ensuring the safety and security of the storage facility. The selection process involved rigorous scientific analysis and consideration of factors such as geology, hydrology, and proximity to transportation routes.
While some may have concerns about the potential risks associated with storing nuclear waste, proponents of the project argue that the facility will be built to the highest safety standards and monitored closely to ensure that any potential risks are minimized.
It is estimated that the facility will be able to store Canada’s nuclear waste for hundreds of years, providing a long-term solution to the ongoing challenge of managing radioactive materials. This decision represents a significant milestone in Canada’s efforts to responsibly manage its nuclear waste and ensure the safety of future generations.

Why does it need to leave the plant property? We have over 100 year's worth of storage space in Pickering. Sure… 50 years have gone by, but there are many acres of untouched land on their property to build more storage.
Put it in Toronto!
Thats disgusting, why put it in an area thats mostly undeveloped
Put 30 percent tariffs on everything coming from the USA until Trump can stop all the guns that are coming from the USA that are killing and causing all the crime over here
Prime Minister Trudeau always seems in the center of every situation, voicing his opinions or concerns, even in his Cabinet Ministers area. And yet where is he through this Postal Strike? I always thought the mail in one's country is very serious. Apparently not.
perfect the most pristine environment to destroy. why not leave it in toronto where most energy is consumed. you msade you deal with it. there is a couple of huge open spaces like the skydome or other sporting facility.
Why not build the plant 500 metres underground and the waste disposal right next door ?
Then no trains, planes or automobiles. You wheel the waste out to the massive underground storage next door.
Illegal GUNS crossing into Canada is a REAL issue vs Illegal drugs heading south
Why has the media not reported on the benefit to the Postal workers that are laid off. If the Postie is on strike they can't collect EI but if they are temporarily laid off, can't they apply for EI now. Win Win for them if it turns out to be a very long strike. The ones not laid off should be upset. Correct me if I missed something.
One impressive way to 'turbocharge' the big landmass and its people, America and Canada, would be to wipe away the border which stunts progress, divides people, restricts FREEDOM and creates tension at times.
Elon or some other wealthy person with influence should be able to fork out some money to Canadian adults to make it happen since there are only about 33 million adults in Canada.
Just think of Canadians as well as people from other nations who have gone to America to seek their fame and fortune and have been successful.
A prime example would be S. African born Musk who spent three years in Canada, went south to America to seek his fame and fortune and is likely to become the world's first trillionaire.
Canada has a shrinking GDP per capita which is a key indicator of prosperity, a weakening Canadian dollar, a weak military, inflation issues, national debt has doubled, an increasing cost of living and housing crisis.
Some Canadians still think that they need a king ' hovering ' over them in these modern times who lives on a faraway island but what they really do need are lower taxes and a strong (American) military to protect the arctic.
Ownership of the arctic means nothing if you can't defend it and Canada does not have the military to defend it, so the arctic is fully dependent on the US for its protection.
In April 2021 Putin filed a submission to extend a claim to the Arctic, all the way into the Canadian and Greenland (Denmark) continental shelf and economic zone, as part of Russia's continental shelf.
A situation where they're claiming the entire Arctic Canadian and Danish continental shelf as part of the Russian continental shelf.
In 2018 Beijing agreed it would cooperate with Russia on a new Arctic silk route, signing 20 bilateral documents and agreeing to invest in the region.
As part of this, Beijing will build several Chinese docks across Russia's north in ports.
Russia demands permission for ships to use the Northeast Passage plus use Russian pilot ships.
Putin wants control of the Arctic trade routes and the natural resources in the Arctic.
America is the only country that has put 12 men on the moon and returned them safely to earth again and that was roughly 50 years ago, so dont underestimate America.
If America and Canada united, it would be the world's largest country and would be over one million square miles larger than Russia.
What a huge 'playground' we all would have with no border to restrict us-! That would be FREEDOM.
A nuclear waste dumping site is nothing more than a radioactive nuclear bomb waiting to go off.
Trudeau had 9yrs to fix borders 😴 🥱
Why don't they use those rods to make hydrogen from water. It perfect way to make renewable fuel. Sea water an fuel rods. Look Wat happened at what happened in Japan when tried cooling their rods with sea water. Made hydrogen n blew up the roofs covering power plant.
May Love Peace Prevail In The World 🌍
Oil and gas works just fine. No need for "nuclear waste."
!!I am at the beginning of my "investment journey", planning to put 185K into dividend stocks so that I will be making up to 30% per year in dividend returns. any good stock recommendation on great performing stocks will be appreciated..
Trump is going to use the tariffs no matter what, no matter what happens at the boarder. Mark my words
Better get the Chinese to build it because it will take 100's of years to be built by Canadians.
No halt to inflation?? It feels like a toxic tax on the backs of people and no government is able to stop it!!
Regarding the Israeli "issue" I am surprised how comfortable killing innocent people people on both sides seem. So many women children and men…gone. Never to be hugged, have another birthday, live in a home. It's horrible.
Why not launch into space?
Id rather see canadians get Garunteed Basic Income, than this gst holiday. Wild way to help people
thanks dana friesen keep supporting your holy land ISRAEL
Why can't we use TerraPower Nuclear Plan which use Nuclear waste as fuel?
Spent nuclear fuel is amongst the deadliest substances Earth in terms. It emits lethal amounts of gamma radiation. Upon removal from the core, the spent fuel is so dangerous that its kept onsite for months to years for fear of moving it. Only after its cooled somewhat are they transported using extremely thick containment vessels.
Spent nuclear fuel has radioactive isotopes with half-lives ranging from 30-years to millions of years. We humans have terrible record of handling our waste. We don't even know if the best storage sites will last 100 years let alone thousands and millions of years! Its someone else's problem at that point!
We humans do love kicking the can down the road though. Look at Germany's Asse-II mines that were used to store nuclear waste since the 60's. It's been leaking radioactive material into the soil for decades. Politicians have promised cleanup for decades too but with little results. Asse-II may be a big reason why Germany completely abandoned nuclear power.
That Alberta premier and all who think like her need to buy a clue. trump-baby doesn't care about you, no matter how much you grovel at his throne. 😅 🇨🇦
Headline music is too loud!!
They are putting the waste there because it is remote and is in the Canadian Shield. The oldest rock on the planet.
I know the perfect place for all that nuclear waste look at all the available locations in Quebec. They're so eager to ban English signs and all the rest of that stuff and how much they want to leave Canada and be there on thing I'm sure they won't notice a little extra toxic waste on top of what they've already been dishing out the last 50 or so years and maybe toxic waste means something different and appealing in French maybe the words toxic waste means something different to them who knows one way to find out
