Summary of Cecil
Cecil, directed by Sark Asadourian, is a heartfelt family film that explores themes of identity, courage, and friendship. The story centers on Cecil Stevens, portrayed by Asadourian himself, a shy fourth-grader struggling with a severe lisp that makes him a target for relentless teasing at school. To combat the bullying, Cecil decides to change his name to Michael Jordan, hoping to adopt the persona of the legendary basketball player and gain some much-needed confidence.
Cecil’s journey takes an unexpected turn when he teams up with his spirited friend, Abby Jennings, played by Christa Beth Campbell. Together, they uncover a scandal involving their school principal, who is embezzling funds intended for school programs, including the school newspaper that is central to their educational experience. Realizing the importance of their school’s identity, Cecil and Abby rally their classmates to expose the wrongdoing and save their beloved newspaper.
With a blend of humor, drama, and a touch of inspiration, Cecil captures the trials of growing up while emphasizing the value of loyalty and advocacy. The film not only showcases the challenges faced by children but also highlights the power of unity and creativity in overcoming adversity.
