This talk begins by exploring the meaning of the name “Ami,” symbolizing love and friendship, and introduces the idea of “World Ami Day.” This proposed global day invites children from all corners of the world to come together, transcending borders, religions, and cultural differences, to promote true peace. Through this initiative, children everywhere can say, “Let’s be friends!” and “Thank you for being my friend!”—nurturing friendship and an appreciation of diversity from an early age. By fostering these values, children can naturally move away from conflict and division. The speaker envisions that the establishment of “World Ami Day” will act as a powerful step toward creating a harmonious world, empowering children—the future stewards of our planet—to join hands in unity.
I am currently a high school student at Brillantmont International School in Switzerland. Studying here has given me the unique opportunity to connect with students from all over the world and learn about the rich traditions and customs of their diverse cultures.
Throughout my four years, I have actively participated in multiple Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, representing countries such as Senegal, Australia, and Indonesia. During these events, I focused on addressing critical issues related to social justice, environmental sustainability, and children’s welfare, presenting solutions to some of the most pressing challenges faced by each nation. These experiences have inspired me to lead the MUN conference at my school in 2024, where I will take on the role of a leader and organizer.
Beyond academics, I have volunteered in Thailand and Portugal, contributing to housing projects for underprivileged communities. Witnessing child homelessness firsthand was a deeply moving experience that reinforced my belief in the importance of creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive. I dream of a future where no child goes to bed hungry, and where every child’s dreams have the chance to come true.
I firmly believe that world peace is the foundation for realizing these dreams. If children around the globe can build friendships that transcend borders, color, religion, language, and all other divides, we can grow into a generation that rejects conflict and embraces unity. To promote this vision, I aspire to establish a “World Ami Day” — a global initiative encouraging children to connect, share, and foster lasting friendships across the world.
Let us unite as friends today, so we can create a peaceful and harmonious tomorrow. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
