Celine Dion Gets Emotional After Documentary Screening Standing Ovation: ‘I Hope to See You All Again Very, Very Soon’

Celine Dion was moved to tears on Monday night (June 17) after she received a standing ovation at the New York screening of her Amazon MGM documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion.” 

“Thank you to all of you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of my journey. This movie is my love letter to each of you,” the “Power of Love” singer told the audience at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. “I hope to see you all again very, very soon.”

Directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor, I Am: Céline Dion promises a “raw and honest” look at the superstar’s battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, also known as Moersch-Woltman Syndrome. According to a press release from Amazon MGM Studios, the film will also “highlight the music that has guided [Céline’s] life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit.”

Since December 2022, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer has remained largely out of the public eye due to her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder known for causing uncontrolled muscle spasms that make it hard to move. Dion was forced to postpone all of her 2023 tour dates, before ultimately canceling the rest of her tour entirely. Last December, her sister Claudette revealed that Celine had “no control” of her muscles.

At the Grammy Awards on Feb. 4, Dion presented the final award of the evening, album of the year, to Taylor Swift for Midnights. Dion had won in that category 27 years earlier for Falling Into You.

In March, the songstress spoke out on social media for International Stiff Person Syndrome Awareness Day. “Today the world recognizes International SPS Awareness Day,” Dion wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her smiling with her three sons. “As many of you know, in the fall of 2022, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible. I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you!”
