In the wake of the tragic deaths of at least 12 people who were attempting to cross the English Channel from France to the UK, France’s Interior Minister has called for a reassessment of the existing immigration laws between the two countries.
The incident has brought to light the dangers faced by migrants seeking to make the perilous journey across the Channel in overcrowded boats. The recent deaths serve as a grim reminder of the urgency in addressing the root causes that drive individuals to risk their lives in search of a better future.
The existing migration laws between France and the UK have come under scrutiny, with critics pointing to the need for updated regulations that take into account the current realities of migration patterns in Europe. The lack of safe and legal pathways for migrants has only exacerbated the risks faced by those attempting to reach the UK by sea.
France’s Interior Minister’s call for updated migration laws highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing the underlying issues driving migration and ensuring the safety of all individuals seeking to cross borders in search of a better life.
As the investigations into the recent Channel deaths continue, it is crucial that policymakers in both France and the UK work together to develop more humane and effective solutions that prioritize the protection and well-being of migrants. Only through collaborative efforts and a commitment to upholding human rights can we hope to prevent further tragedies and create a more just and equitable system of migration.

No, first President Macron ought to be impeached for adopting a "silent policies" on human traffickers based in France and all channels crossing were probably President Macron unspoken policy.
It's sad to hear of deaths in the channel but with how many do it knowing the risks and deliberately leaving safe countries to float over here I can't feel bad for them, they left safety and put themselves in danger.
Women and girls, l highly doubt it. Lugen press.
You're so right! The laws are outdated…Europe and the UK must open its arms to everyone in the South and hold them to its bosom. If we take each and of every one of these dear asylum seekers it will make Europe so much better and solve all the problems in the South! Thank you for reporting this with bias!
It's very risky, feeling very sorry for the victimes they paid for their death 😢
Stop the boats.we don't need them.liars on DW
Only French can stop these boats immediately, it is the point
Oh so now this happened on the French side they want to do something about it 😂
France is COMPLICIT in allowing this illegal act and these deaths
It’s Not migration, its ILLEGAL immigration and it needs to stop, France hasn’t had a war since 1945, and we ended up paying for that as well
That is 12 that didn't make it and for each illegal immigrant is about £68,000, it costs the UK taxpayer and the French will have to pay for their burial I suppose I could take it out of 700 million we give them all ready that was supposed to stop them from getting in the boats!
What man would keep or take a life jacket from a drowning pregnant woman or girl? Maybe it's cultural.
