Summer might be drawing to a close, but the Brat era has only just begun. In an interview with Vulture published Monday (Aug. 26), Charli XCX teased that she’s already working on another project, and it’s “definitely” going to complement her hit 2024 album.
Though the “Boom Clap” artist didn’t divulge specifics, she did tell the publication that there may soon be a “full-length other project” for fans to enjoy. She also added that though it’s not a remix album, “it’s definitely in the bratosphere, so to speak.”
The interview comes nearly three months after Charli dropped her critically acclaimed sixth studio record, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200 — her highest peak on the chart to date. Since then, she’s kept fans roped in by releasing a steady stream of high-profile remixes with other artists, including “Girl, So Confusing” with Lorde and “Guess” featuring Billie Eilish.
On Aug. 14, the English singer-songwriter teased that she had “one more remix” in the tank before Brat summer shifts to fall. And while it’s still unknown which Brat song will be next to get a revamping, Charli did confirm to Vulture that she’s sitting on an unfinished rework of “Sympathy Is a Knife” (aka the one rumored to be about Taylor Swift).
“I wrote this three or four weeks ago, about this idea of, like, you have to fall — if you’re deemed to be even in the slightest way on top, you have to fall,” she told the publication of the remix, which features the line, “It’s a knife when you’re finally on top … They want to see you fall.” “I’m not a f–king idiot. I know how s–t works.”
Then again, Charli did also warn that people should take her answers with a heavy grain of salt. “Lying is so fun, so brat,” she told the publication pointedly. “Who made this rule that you have to be truthful and honest in the press as an artist? The press is just a tool.”
