China’s Strong Criticism of US Actions Against Maduro: A Political Dilemma for Beijing
In a stark rebuke of American foreign policy, China has sharply criticized the recent toppling of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, signaling a potential shift in geopolitical alliances and raising concerns about its long-standing ties to Caracas. The fall of Maduro, a key ally of China since the era of Hugo Chávez, poses significant challenges for Beijing, which has invested heavily in Venezuela as part of its broader strategy to expand influence in the Americas.
For over a decade, Venezuela has served as an essential partner for China, with the Asian giant relying on the South American nation as a critical source of crude oil. As the seventh-largest oil exporter to China, Venezuela’s resources have been pivotal for Beijing’s energy needs, particularly amidst global market fluctuations. The deep ties established during Chávez’s presidency have endured through Maduro’s administration, yet the recent upheaval threatens to unravel this carefully cultivated relationship.
China’s government has expressed strong disapproval of the US’s actions, framing them as an infringement on Venezuela’s sovereignty. Analysts argue that this is not merely an expression of solidarity with Maduro but also a strategic move to counteract US influence in a region that Washington has long considered its sphere of dominance. Clifford Coonan, a DW China analyst, emphasizes the importance of Venezuela in China’s broader ambitions in Latin America, stating that the revitalization of cooperation between China and Latin American countries could hinge on how the situation unfolds in Venezuela.
The US’s efforts to oust Maduro have been met with ire and suspicion by Beijing, which perceives these actions as a direct challenge to its expanding geopolitical presence. For China, maintaining a stable relationship with Caracas is not only economically beneficial but also crucial for asserting its role as a global leader capable of contesting US dominance.
As tensions mount, the future of China’s association with Venezuela remains uncertain. The outcome of this political turmoil could redefine alliances in the region and test China’s diplomatic strategies. As the global community watches closely, the stakes are high — both for Venezuela and for China’s ambitions in Latin America.

Russia should now just continue and match to Kyiv. This hypocrisy of Europe is visible for the whole world to see.
You only good enough if you can offer China and Russia oil etc. South Africa is now weary of Russia and China. Meetings late during the night of senior government officials.. can Russia and China be a true ali.,?
LOL. The CCP big mad!
The comment section iiss idi*tic. As if the real purpose was to destroy open discurse by pushing the dumbest most undemocratic positions.
I wonder if Merz will also consider an annexation of Greenland to be complex?
is US will do same with iran and after such act iran will keep quit and let American keep their presence in mid East
You know you're doing right when your enemies are moaning.
Beijing simply allows Washington to take what it needs; it is the US that has broken international norms, damaging its reputation and credibility. Perhaps DW should discuss the implications if Trump were to openly call for Greenland, a request he has made many times.
China found out what time it is. We make warfare look like a movie.
Who Ever Controls Venezuela 🇻🇪 Controls The World 🌎
Venezuela will be that orange clowns next Vietnam.
and these hypocrite European clowns think theyll also benefit from the Venezuelan loot.
It is great that dictator Maduro is no longer in power. I wish the people of Venezuela quick new democratic elections and better government than the previous. The people of Venezuela deserve to determine their own future — without long term foreign intervention. The people of Venezuela deserve governing themselves by themselves. I hope the majority of them understand that America is not in Venezuela to steal their oil, but to bring prosperity, peace, and democracy to their homes I hope.
Little Marco, stop invading countries, give the people of Venezuela a chance at fair elections, and then, when they have a better democratic government, let them live their lives and rebuild them themselves.
The United States has set a bad precedent, more and more examples will emerge absolutly.
This is dumb move by Trump. This will give China the idea that she can do this to the American allies in Asia.
Haha, China
Critical of President Trump , however no other country made an effort to assist Venezuela .
Maduros is an example to CCP😂
Trump made a fool out of Xi in Venezuela. They invested Billions of dollars into Venezuela, and now they risk to lose it all. Xi is in a very bad position. He was a top dog and he brought shame on China. I think that CCP will take him out.
What does it mean for the world
China is jealouse, especially that it cannot do this to Taiwan. America kidnapped Maduro without losing a soldier.
Stop Trump's terror.. What is the difference between the American president and terrorists? What is the difference between the Hamas group and the American president? ………….. Kidnap!
hahahaha coward China and keyboard warriors
China is useless…… They just let US destroy their $60,000,000,000 deal. I guess if they dont have the courage to protect it my government will take it.
Up next is Greenland?
Maduro owed money to a lot of people. He’d been paying off oil-for-debt to Russia and China via US-sanctioned tankers, but now Trump has "muscled in and taken over the account" to use Mafia-style terminology. This is a turf war between standover actors in the US’ backyard, and now Trump has the upper hand.
Trump inaugurates OPENLY New Colonial Imperialism…. 😜😜.. for OIL and Resources…
Merz should hide.. not to be arrested by US…😂😂
China is an authoritarian state that oppresses people for disagreeing with them. Of course they will side with Maduro
Russia should do the same with zelonski and China with Taiwani president 😂😂
CCP Is upset= Something good happened which ruined their plans.
Headache 4 China? Maybe a broken lefthand 4 others too.
Why not sanctions on US? They invade a country like Russia.
Means jack. Business as usual. Also it has Russia next door with plenty of ChEAP energy😂😂😂
China and Russia helped out Venezuela as much as they helped out Iran.
"the US is ready to act unilaterally in a situation when it feels its interest have been compromised". BS, we all know it's a distraction from the Epstein files
Finally. A more sober rational analysis of the geostrategic meaning of this without the usual left-wing attacks about “violation of sovereignty” of what is objectively a dictatorial regime fast on its way to becoming a Chinese puppet at America’s doorstep. China was in all likelihood trying to create a “super-Cuba” in Venezuela. A host to Chinese naval (nuclear submarine, carrier) and army forces and force projection that would hold the US in perpetual risk, and a jumping point for autocratic contagion to for rest of Latin America. Say what you will about America’s evils, but US intel ops was not about to let Maduro’s (and Chavez’s) Venezuela fester into an new axis power to threaten the western hemisphere for the next half century. I am not a trump fan, but i have lost total faith in the left to read the geopolitical tea leaves. Naivety on another level. France24 and MSNBC still acting like China wants to be a good citizen 😂
United States just show the world that we can come into your dictatorship anytime we want and pluck out the dictator.
US is being a bad model this time, if US is doing this means China can do this as well.
Haha 😂Maduro tempted fate. Oooops.
Taiwan has it Covered. They promised Mutually Assured Destruction.
Japan helped with that One.
China is worried. They has rare earth and USA has more oil than the Arab world. Next Iran
I like how they all just give themselves a pat on the back 😂 everyone are waiting for their own turn to eat someone.
