China is on the brink of its most significant economic strategic shift in decades as it gears up to counter the threat of higher tariffs imposed by the US in the ongoing trade war between the two global superpowers. This move comes as the country faces strong economic headwinds, prompting experts to consider what steps China can take to overcome the challenges posed by the tariffs and how this will impact Europe.
In a recent interview with China expert George Magnus, DW’s Clifford Coonan delves into the strategies that China could adopt to mitigate the effects of the tariffs imposed by the US. With tensions escalating between the two economic powerhouses, China is faced with the imperative to recalibrate its economic policies in order to navigate through the storm.
The outcome of this economic strategic shift in China will undoubtedly have ripple effects on Europe, as the global economic landscape continues to evolve. It is crucial for European nations to closely monitor the developments in China and adapt to the changing dynamics in the international trade arena.
As China prepares to embark on this pivotal economic transformation, the world awaits to see how the country will navigate the challenges posed by the trade war and how its decisions will impact the global economy. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding story.

But Germany can't as it is more vulnerable
What I find interesting whenever we discuss china or its interaction with companies is the narrative we believe is the cause behind its actions. I have prayers and books published predicting the total collapse of the Chinese economy without success. All the while, the country's economy keeps growing, not at the previous level but growing far beyond any other economy with very few exceptions. So it seems to me that the experts do not know what they are talking about. From the look of things,a lot of things have been done to assist strategic companies to grow while at the same time putting in place certain interventions that will stimulate local consumption. So there is nothing anybody can do to destroy the Chinese economy. Trump will try of course, but he won't succeed.
The US is China's largest market by far. Trump can cut off all Chinese imports, it would hurt China's economy badly, and they cannot do a thing about it.
Trump will win trade war against Europe.
Yes.
Undoubtedly. Because while the US is putting up Tariffs, they are also tearing up their international relationship, demolishing their own internal structure. As things are going, the US may not even have a function government within a year. How could they even start a trade and expect to win without a functioning government.
If I only watched news from Deutsche Welle, I would have thought that China had collapsed long ago.😂
Can't trust the numbers published from China
based on how the rest of the world is doing, you think the GDP posted by US is real? I don't see any major blooming of businesses and consumers are spending less and less including food and cars which is the essentials. Why would Trump forcing countries to trade with US and cutting jobs that can cost the republicans to lose support in the long term if they're not already in a crisis of their own?
Nice anecdote. But I know many too of believers who became atheists.
If these two Chinese experts know anything about China economy and feasible solutions to solve China’s economic dilemma , then they should deserve a Nobel price on economic. Does any country on earth can solve its economic woes in a year or two, all G7 countries never even attempt to solve any of their chronic economic problems, yet their economies are floating around. China economy is doing relatively well compared to G7 and much of the world!
This is an example of some sort of mind disease that happens when some westerners talk about China. They don't seem, at all, to be able to distinguish their own internal dislike for a communist form of government from the reality happening on the ground. Everything comes out as a sort of fever dream. It makes it doubly worse for this to be coming out of Europe whose economy is basically collapsing or has already collapsed, depend on which country in Europe we happen to be talking about.
If Trump continues down the trade war path, and it begins to actually affect the US trade deficit with China, the US will have an even larger liquidity problem. They can either fix the liquidity problem which is existential or worry about the trade imbalance, but not both. China having a trade surplus is not remotely a problem for China except they end up with a lot of dollars. As an export country, that is what you want to have.
Media is worrying about excess capacity on consumer goods, but somehow never worry about excess capacity of weapons of destructions. For whatever reason, more affordable goods for human kind is evil while making weapons to destroy is somehow good.
Authoritarian totalitarianism project mocking bird 🐦 😂
Despite no jobs and people can no longer afford to live, people will be lining up to live off the government. Acquiring $64k monthly is indeed a blessing.
im really bored with the wests obsession of seeing china do bad as if their own economies are suffering
Americas Gdp 30 trillion Europes GDP is 20 trillion. even though Europe has 200 million more people than us. Were good over here 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
wild how china doesnt care to even highlight anything about Europe – yet here you guys are. not even your friend trump will boost you
DW is saying Chinese manufacturersn are selling at discount. But these product are always sold at a lower price compared to the EU products, the cheap price is the original price.
If Trump thinks Europe will join the US in his trade war with China, he's delusional, he chose Russia over Europe so he should go ask Russia to help him (which they surely will, since they're so trustworthy), the EU should play tit for tat and help China out now since we've been betrayed by the Americans.
❤Well done China. At some leaders are thinking SENSIBLY and about their CITIZENS.
The propoganda is strong with this one.
why should people buy unwanted stuff in the name of economy. shouldn't we focus on sustainability and only buy what we need?
DW: I am sorry to tell you that you're almost a decade late! In case you didn't notice, China has already pivoted trade away from the US and towards the Global South. US share of China's exports has fallen from 25% to 15%, and is now in third place behind ASEAN and the EU. China's biggest export destination is ASEAN, now at 25%. China has also pivoted trade towards Russia, Latin America, South Asia and Africa. That you didn't know these facts would only confirm your lack of even basic knowledge about the matter, and about China in general.
That we don’t know. But we do know tungsten, geranium, antimony, gallium and other rare earth minerals are hard to get.
At this point I won’t be surprised if China just beats us in general, we’ll see what the Stable Genius can cook up but it’s not looking good
[11:40] With the data from the Treasury, and other agencies, Tromp and others in his orbit, have access to data with which to train AI systems so that they can game the equity markets to their advantage, and have the option to stand down the SEC. To assist with this grift-at-scale, thus the tariffs that Trump knows when he will apply and withdraw, on friends and allies, since that's where the money is 🙂
DW seems to have a major obsession with Trump.
Does he works for US? 😂
This guy knows nothing about China and dare to say anything as a lecturer, it's a typical european. And simply cries when lectured by a real teacher JD Vance.
[16:40] With the UK crowing about a growth of 0.15%,, how pedestrian does growth have to get in China, before it becomes a concern 🙂
Trump selling out Ukraine, says a lot about Taiwan position, Japan Philippines and Australia need to step in .
USA has gone totally crazy on its allies
