Civilians fleeing Ukraine’s Pokrovsk as Russia advances: Time to leave, says FRANCE 24

As Russia continues to advance into Ukrainian territory, civilians in the key city of Pokrovsk in Donbas are being urged to evacuate as soon as possible. The city, known for its railway station serving as a departure point for special evacuation trains since 2022, has suddenly become a target for Russian forces.

Previously considered relatively safe compared to other parts of the region, Pokrovsk is now facing imminent danger and residents are fleeing in fear for their lives. Journalist Gulliver Cragg visited the city to meet some of the civilians who are making the difficult decision to leave their homes behind.

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated in recent weeks, leading to increased violence and instability in the region. With Russia’s military efforts focused on key strategic points like Pokrovsk, the situation for civilians is becoming increasingly dire.

As the international community watches on, the people of Pokrovsk are left with no choice but to abandon their homes and seek safety elsewhere. The future remains uncertain for those who are forced to leave everything behind in the face of Russia’s advancing forces.
