Kenya’s youth took to the streets of Nairobi in protest, demanding accountability from their government. The trigger was the Finance Bill 2024, which proposed tax hikes on basic goods, burdening those already struggling with the high cost of living. The protesters, mostly from Gen Z, faced a brutal crackdown from security forces, resulting in the tragic deaths of 39 demonstrators.
Among those on the frontlines was activist Boniface Mwangi, known as the ‘People’s Watchman’ for his advocacy for marginalized communities. Mwangi is now fighting for justice for the families of those who lost their lives in the protests, seeking to hold their leaders accountable for the violence inflicted on the protesters demanding dignity and fairness.
The youth of Kenya have shown resilience and determination in their fight for a better future, but the toll of the protests has been devastating. The video captures the courage and sacrifice of those who risked their lives to demand accountability from their government.
