The return of wolves to several European countries has prompted a heated debate on whether man and wolf can peacefully coexist in the same environment. In Switzerland, where wolves were first spotted in 2012 and their numbers have tripled to at least 300, this issue has become particularly pressing.
With the increasing population of wolves, sheepowners in Switzerland have faced growing attacks on their livestock. This has led to tensions between farmers and conservationists, as the farmers argue that the presence of wolves poses a threat to their livelihood.
Despite these challenges, an NGO has stepped in to try and bridge the divide between man and wolf. By offering a unique service, this organization is working towards a solution that allows both humans and wolves to share the same space harmoniously.
FRANCE 24’s Environment Editor Valerie Dekimpe sheds light on this complex issue, exploring the efforts being made to reconcile the conflicting interests of farmers and conservationists in Switzerland. Can man and wolf truly coexist in Europe, or will the predator’s return continue to cause backlash among farmers?

Some men are predators and definitely can coexist with wolfs.
Ask to Ursula Von Der Leyen, about is opinion
Europeans have been lecturing Asian, Africans and South Americans to give up land to predators.
And they complain about a small wolf population. This can easily be solved with Guard Dogs that can protect the flock from wolves. Not sure why they did not implement it here
Can trumpistas live together, hate to say in the long run they will eat there own 😂
Why not use hearding and Shepard dogs at night to keep watch and guard ?
I Love Virginia Woolf. 😂.
I do wish wild life biologists got out of their academic ivory towers and explained to the wider public that biodiversity is vital, if we want healthy and sustainable ecosystems…—> leading to oxygen and trees and life in our green spaces in Europe. Biodiversity = diversity of both native flora and fauna species. Wolves are a 100% native European mammal fauna species from Scandinavia to the coast of Mediterranean Europe. As are bears and lynxes and so on. Ultimately, what kind of nature do we want to have in Europe/within the EU jurisdiction? Is nature, the natural environment, where first and foremost farmers just make a living, and everything else fits around to their convenience and ease? Is there room for nature to flourish? Can we combine profitable farming and a natural environment with good flora and fauna diversity? There are plenty of ancient European dog breeds used to protect livestock: Maremmas, Great Pyrenees, Estrela Mountain Dogs, Belgian Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, German Shepherds,..Not to mention that in a biodiverse environment top predators, like wolves, can be naturally checked by other such predators. But what kind of nature do we want in Europe? Do we want a Disney theme park or do we want to be working toward biodiversity?
In the past animals used to hunt wolves.
Might need to introduce animals that hunt wolves or just relax the rules on hunting.
Or just carry on with this current system.
I live with a 40% wolf Old German Shepherd mix. He is like my younger brother. He has allowed a rescue duckling to eat from his bowl.
Literally man’s best friend and we can’t figure out how to coexist with them.
All life on planet must learn to coexist
Can man and man co exist!?
