Conservatives Question Trudeau’s Immigration Policy Change – The System Shattered

Conservatives are raising concerns over Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s recent announcement to reduce the number of new permanent residents by 21 per cent by next year. The Opposition accused the Liberals of “shattering the system” and causing damage to Canada’s housing market. During question period in the House of Commons, Conservative MP Tom Kmiec called out Trudeau for not taking responsibility for the impact of the immigration policy change.

While Trudeau was not present, Immigration Minister Marc Miller defended the decision, stating that the government’s plan for controlled migration serves Canadians well. Trudeau emphasized that the changes to immigration targets are necessary in order to freeze population growth and address the country’s labor needs as Canada recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Conservative MPs continue to question the intentions behind Trudeau’s immigration policy change, expressing concerns about the lasting impact on Canada’s housing market and immigration system. The Opposition is pushing for more transparency and accountability from the Liberal government regarding the implications of reducing the number of new permanent residents.
