A Nova Scotia woman is facing a hefty $50,000 price tag for endometriosis surgery in the United States. Endometriosis is a chronic disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus grows outside of it. This condition can cause severe pelvic pain and infertility in women. The surgery required to treat endometriosis can be expensive, especially when seeking specialized care in another country.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, decided to seek treatment in the US after struggling to find a specialist in Canada who could properly address her condition. Despite having insurance coverage in Canada, she was shocked to learn that the surgery would not be covered and that she would have to foot the bill herself.
The $50,000 price tag for the surgery left her in a difficult financial situation, as she had to dip into her savings and even take out a loan in order to afford the procedure. She is now speaking out about the financial burden she faced in order to receive the medical care she needed.
This case highlights the challenges faced by many women who suffer from endometriosis and struggle to access specialized care. The high cost of treatment can be prohibitive for those who do not have the financial means to afford it, leaving them with limited options for managing their condition.
As awareness around endometriosis continues to grow, it is essential that healthcare systems provide better support for women who require specialized treatment. Nobody should have to endure financial hardship in order to receive the medical care they need to manage a chronic condition like endometriosis.

If our nights were as funny as this video, we'd never fall asleep😛
The government has already paid for 20 surgeries for this woman, I dont think it is unreasonable for her to pay for some of her procedures. And I think people should know by now that Canada does not offer world class healthcare services. So you have to travel somewhere else and pay to get treatment not offered here
Then why are health care providers not signing off
Healthcare I receive it Canada is pathetic. Rather than resolving issues, they are managed often with medication. This place the financial burden on the patient who has already handed over half their paycheck to the government and I suppose it keep big pharma happy.
FJT!
There are more resources now than when I was dealing with it. I just had to grin and bear it – and I did
My nephews daughter has suffered for years and had to go to Seattle Washington for a surgery ,why does Canada not do this type of surgery ,really get with the latest technology!
It's weird I recieved exstendive surgery in bc a number of years ago they should have sent you there rendered by genocologist
Having had this surgery myself in my 20s in ireland, it's so worth it. I paid for private insurance and got the best treatment. I mean, it was after 15 years of being undiagnosed and in pain but in the end it was worth it! Hope this woman gets the treatment she actually needs
It's fun to be taxed to death in this country, then having to pay out of pocket elsewhere to receive healthcare.
This is a horrifying story. My parents moved to Ontario when they were starting to have complex health issues. I don’t want to have to do that… this is home!
Canadian health care is a complete joke. Lack of knowledge is astonishing and pepper are struggling to even find a doctor. Once they do they are usually under skilled and over prescribers..
You can get the same surgery done under 2000$ in India. 3000$ for flight, 1000$ hotel. Total 6,000$. Some of the top private hospitals are,

Endometriosis is why I lost my entire reproductive system and all or parts of other organs by the age or 34. It’s also a large reason why I’m choosing medically assisted death this year at 36. That and the horrendous treatment by physicians and nurses. It caused other diseases too. I wrote the prime minister about the lack of appropriate or adequate care for women, but no one cares until you’re basically dead 🤷♀️
The canadian way.
Government run anything is garbage.
The Womens College Hospital in Toronto offers endometriosis surgery in Ontario. Maybe she could have gotten referred there instead of paying out of pocket in the United States.
I'm favoured, $27K every week! I can now give back to the locals in my community and also support God's work and the church. God bless America.
I had endometriosis since my adolescence with chronic pain and as soon as I had a hysterectomy in my 30's , no more pain or signs of Endometriosis and I am now in my 50's.
She can change her last name to Patel and Justinder Trudie will cover her cost😂😂😂😂
You got ripped off. Trudeau would have got you that operation for $50 and a 3 year wait period.
20 surgeries? Then another surgery in the US. If she had a hysterectomy, how can these organs be attached to them?
I was diagnosed during my hysterectomy last Fall with stage 4 endometriosis after decades of being told there's nothing wrong with me. It was only after I was finally diagnosed with adenomyosis that I could find a gynecologist willing to help me and even then I had to push for a hysterectomy. I waited for 3 years for the surgery. One week after surgery I was experiencing troubling symptoms and had to BEG to have a 5 minute phone appointment with one of the surgeons. And I was told one year after surgery they will be discharging me and referring me back to my non existent family doctor for care. I have a two month wait for a 15 minute phone appointment with the surgeon to discuss something urgent. So I just give up. I am just expected to go through life as though I'm not in constant, severe pain. I get in trouble with HR at work for missing too much work and not being magically healed after my hysterectomy, which doesn't even treat endometriosis. So I give up.
