Nigeria’s national champion in the women’s 100-meter sprint will not be competing at the Paris Olympics, and she is placing the blame squarely on her country’s track federation. The athlete, whose name has not been disclosed, claims that she was not entered into the race in time by the federation, leading to her exclusion from the competition.
This incident has sparked controversy and outrage within the Nigerian sporting community, with many questioning the competence of the track federation and their handling of the situation. Fans and supporters of the athlete are disappointed by the missed opportunity for her to showcase her talent on the world stage.
In a statement, the athlete expressed her frustration and disappointment at being unable to compete at the Olympics due to what she believes was a preventable error on the part of the federation. She had been looking forward to representing Nigeria and showcasing her skills on the global stage, but will now have to wait for another opportunity in the future.
Mbuelo Thinta, a sports journalist in Johannesburg, commented on the situation, highlighting the importance of proper communication and organization within national sports federations. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability to ensure that athletes are given every opportunity to succeed in their respective sports.
As the Paris Olympics approach, this incident serves as a reminder of the challenges that athletes from developing countries often face in their quest for Olympic glory. It also raises questions about the support and resources available to athletes in Nigeria and other countries with similar issues in their sports administration.
The athlete’s disappointment is palpable, but she remains hopeful for future opportunities to represent her country on the international stage. In the meantime, the Nigerian track federation will need to address the issues that led to this missed opportunity to ensure that other athletes do not face similar setbacks in the future.

Some NOC official has to lose their job now. Ridiculous.
It is what it is. Like one less black woman in the 100m will make a difference like one less white man banker will make a difference. Also maybe filling forms should be an Olympic event 😂 There you go problem solved. Let's remember she went to USA to enhance her own future and not to enhance Nigeria.
Such a tragedy for her 😢
If this young woman is the Nigerian national champion in the 100 meters and a valid member of the Nigerian team, and she has a history of regularly running the 100 meter race in competitions, and she is clean of performance-improving substances, then she should be able to run the 100 meters at the olympics. I don't see why this bureaucratic test that she has to be registered by a certain time is needed.
If you allow your national budget to come from scams you should be disqualified.
