Step back in time with me as we delve into the delicious world of 1824 cooking! Today, we will be recreating a classic recipe for chicken nuggets that has been passed down through the generations. Mary Randolph, a culinary genius from Virginia, first published this recipe nearly 200 years ago and now we have the privilege of bringing it back to life.
As we follow along with the video, you will see how simple and satisfying this recipe truly is. Just like modern day chicken nuggets, these croquets are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making them the perfect comfort food for any occasion. By using basic ingredients that were readily available in the 19th century, we are able to capture the essence of historical American cuisine.
Imagine serving these delectable chicken nuggets at your next family dinner, impressing your guests with a taste of the past. The flavors may be familiar, but the history behind this dish adds an extra layer of enjoyment to each bite. So grab your apron and get ready to transport your taste buds back in time with this 1824 recipe for chicken nuggets.
I hope that you enjoy recreating this piece of culinary history in your own kitchen and that it brings you as much joy as it has brought me. Cooking is not just about nourishing our bodies, but also about connecting with the past and preserving traditions for future generations to enjoy. Let’s honor the legacy of Mary Randolph and all those who have come before us by keeping these timeless recipes alive.

I wonder how early Jewish settlers cooked? Not in the City but those who went out on fronter!
4:56 I'll bet this is an American channel that knows that a skillet has three legs (I have three old cast iron skillets, although I no longer use them for cooking over the fire).
❤
This is how I make chicken lunch meat.. only after pulverized and seasoning it gets formed into a roll and put in a boil bag and boiled for 20 minutes. Slice and enjoy on sandwich bread.
Those look so good. I wonder if ground chicken or turkey would work??? Either way I am so tempted to make that for supper tonight!!
wish was there they look delicious xx
Yes! I like to watch Justine cook-it first, then go watch yal eat-it. 😋
Hi Justine…those look really good!
I would totally serve them. You look radiant! Love from zodaho
“Original RECEIPT” 😂😂😂😂 your too funny
A good tip when making these is only use one hand for coating the patty in the egg and only the other hand for coating in the crumbs. That way your fingers don't develop e thick layer of batter and you can do the whole batch in one go without having to periodically clean your hands.
Looking real tasty!
Nutmeg seems to be a common ingredient in many of your recipes. What does it add to the flavor? Sweetness? Doesn’t cooking over an open fire make things taste different than they would in modern ovens and stoves?
I appreciate your post! My okx wallet holds USDT and other coins and I’ve got the seed phrase :(proof inner hobby bounce blouse able donate virtual luggage cart morning ticket). Could you explain What's the best way to send them to Binance?

I really appreciate your efforts! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a okx with USDT, and I have the 12word phrases: ( proof inner hobby bounce blouse able donate virtual luggage cart morning ticket). What's the way to send them to Binance?
These look really good! I think I'm going to try making some. 😄
❤ from Vero Beach ⛱️ Florida! Looks amazing
Do you know the gender of your baby?
There is nothing as satisfactory as tasting something from a good recipe – and wanting another taste! I know this from experience, and so did my mom. I remember my mom used to make chicken croquettes with a light colored gravy. They were good! Nowadays, I would put out mustard or a mayonnaise sauce to dip them in.
They look better than most chicken nuggets I've seen. I'm giving this a try!!
I was so happy to see you washing your hands after handling the raw chicken! I was a Peds and Mother/Baby nurse for many years, you'll forgive me if the nurse in me comes out, especially since you're expecting!
hose look delicious! I'm going to try those!
I'm learning a lot of great recipes from your channel, and what a coincidence I just had chicken nuggets and waffle fries.😊
Funny, I just made these today. But in the air fryer. Lol wonder what our ancestors would have thought of that.
I never use lard when cooking. Am I missing out?
Looks yummy! 😋😋😋
They look fantastic💖💖💖💖
Didn't realize croquets have been around that long. i wonder if these would be good frozen? Make a big batch then throw them in the lard as needed. They do look delicious.
I will Definitely be trying these !!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
They look so yummy. Need to make them
Somebody on tiktok using your videos under different user name
Next time, use 2 knives at once. It'll be much faster. I had no idea chicken nuggets were that old. 😮
That big knife was usually used to cut bones and stuff lol
They look tasty something youcould have for a supper
We make our chicken croquettes egg shaped and serve with chicken gravy and mashed potatoes. I am definitely going to try this version. Thanks Justine
Those look amazing! Beautiful job! 💜
All videos are good, except the fiddle at the end is way too loud.
To Make Croquets (The Virginia Housewife, Mary Randolph, 1824)
3 Chicken breasts, chopped & pounded fine until it resembles ground meat
A few pieces of ham or bacon, chopped fine as above. Use more or less depending on your taste preferences
1 cup of bread crumbs + 2 cups for the breading
0.5 teaspoons of nutmeg
1 tablespoon of mustard
1 tablespoon of mushroom catsup OR worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons of softened butter
Salt & pepper to taste
6 egg yolks, whisked
Lard for frying
Combine the ground chicken and pork with 1 cup of bread crumbs, nutmeg, mustard, catsup, butter, salt & pepper. Mix up well till blended. Take a small chunk of the chicken mixture and roll it in egg yolks and bread crumbs, flattening it a bit in the bread crumbs. Fry in hot lard until golden on each side. These do not take long to cook so watch them closely.
