Calgary, Alberta – Calgarians are waking up to assess the damage today after a powerful thunderstorm wreaked havoc on the city yesterday evening. The storm brought with it golf-ball-sized hail, strong winds, and heavy rains, causing significant damage to several homes in the area. An emergency alert urged residents to seek shelter as the storm passed through.
In addition to the residential damage, Calgary’s International Airport (YYC) also suffered flooding and damage from the storm. This led to flight cancellations and left passengers stranded as airport staff worked to assess and repair the extent of the damage caused by the intense weather.
The aftermath of the storm has left many residents and officials in Calgary working to clean up and recover from the unexpected damage. The city is no stranger to severe weather, but the intensity of yesterday’s storm has left many shocked and scrambling to address the destruction left in its wake.
As Calgarians work to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the storm, it serves as a reminder of the power and unpredictability of nature. The community will come together to support one another in the cleanup and recovery process, as they navigate the aftermath of this destructive weather event.

I wrapped my car in moving blankets . Here in Calgary ya do what ya gotta do ✅
West Part of the city only Wind and Heavy Rain.
But the more they keep building these concrete jungles, with no drainage or trees, this is what’s going to happen.
That hail was meant for the Gay parade in Vancouver, but someone up has changed his mind and hit Calgary instead.
Stop the Geo Engineering thats been going on for decades.
My family and I were suspicious of how strong and loud the wind was and though there was most likely a funnel cloud forming but who knows.
Imagine WINTER can do… 😟
Your reporter is on green screen. Not out in rain. No raindrops on his glasses & his clipboard papers dry
-30-40 in winter, smoke and hail in summer.
How is this even possible? This would have never happened in the States. Wow Canada.
Arsonists creating hail now too! 🤣
No weather related problems here just ask Danielle Smith
heavy rain/hail even at severe level are not new anywhere in Canada, Calgary even bidded and hosted Winter Olympics sometime ago, so it knows how it's like during winter. so why is the City so ill prepared for severe weather. there should be at least annual review on core infrastructures (such as airport) if not quarterly, Calgarians suffers because there's lack of leadership, the decision makers are just there for the pay cheques, there's no morale, ethics or accountabilities.
Scary that engineers didn't account for water and… frozen water
8 more pipelines would have prevented this.
I seen someone take out their old car out of garage after the warning
Sooooooooooooooo? Back to water restrictions for a regular summer in Calgary? I hope animals were ok.
Are the fires still going cause like give us a break this sucks
BMW for sale like new
Folks… your siding and otherwise other structural buildings should not be getting damaged by small sized hail. The only reason it is happening is due to shoddy construction. That vinyl siding is garbage. Stop using it.
As for the YYC airport… can't say I am surprised really. Wouldn't be surprised either if the same crews that helped build the airport and maintain it, are the same ones responsible for the absolute train wreck known as the West Edmonton Mall, which is notorious for having roof issues.
Hail, of the size of what fell around my neighbourhood, should not be causing that sort of damage. There were NO baseball sized pieces from what I could see, and I was sitting outside on my deck watching it come down. Sure, some might have fallen in other places… but looking at the videos so far, nothing is popping up that way either.
This was a normal hail storm. Normal as in "what one could regularly expect from our weather up here when the conditions are just right for a hail storm". Which they were.
If the hail had gotten to golf ball size, that would have made the emergency alert necessary. Golf ball size can seriously hurt, and damage things. But these pebble sized stuff are really nothing serious. Sting a little when they hit you, but that's about it. And ideally, you won't be standing outside in it anyways.
And before any of you out there say "But if the pebble stuff is nothing, then what about all that damage it caused?"
Yeah, that's why I said the siding is garbage, and the job the construction crew did on the airport was shoddy. For water to be getting into the roof structure like that requires material be broken through somehow in a serious way, and sorry folks but hail of pebble size isn't big enough to do that unless someone didn't do their job properly. It's not even arguable by anyone intelligent.
And vinyl siding has always been garbage, that you dolts buy up like idiots. Sorry, not sorry; facts are facts.
Soon the Mayor of Calgary will be begging people to use more city water as the revenue from water sales have plummeted.
Weather manipulation is real
