David Kurth, a 43-year-old landscaper, suddenly developed high fevers. As his condition worsened, his family took him to the hospital. They thought he had pneumonia, but the doctor found out he had tularemia, a very rare bacterial disease. His condition quickly became critical, and he died a few days later. Over the next month, ten more people got infected. Medical investigators from the Center for Health Control and Connecticut state officials are looking for a link between these cases and noticed that most of the victims worked outdoors.

If the area is known to be a place of high concentration of various species of ticks, carrying various serious infectious diseases, why doesn't the local hospital have access to the better equipped pathology lab? Every sample has to be sent to Massachusetts while the patients' recovery prospects are diminishing with every hour lost! What does the CDC &"Prevention" (as they titilled) say about it? Does the little hospital have "a hot zone"? Are they versed in dealing with level 1 infectious disease patients? Are other patients in the hospital become endangered as their health is already compromised (this is why they already got there)?
Rats are a classical vector (source) of tularemia for humans. It is in any textbook. This was not a discovery!
