Summary of Diamond Head
Diamond Head is a compelling classic drama released in 1962, directed by Buzz Kulik and featuring a stellar cast, including Charlton Heston as the domineering Richard King Howland and Yvette Mimieux as the rebellious Sloane Howland.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Hawaii, the film explores the complexities and tensions within the Howland family. Richard, a wealthy landowner, is portrayed as a controlling figure who grapples with his desire to maintain power over his family’s legacy. His sense of authority is challenged when his sister, Sloane, chooses to marry a man of her own choosing—against Richard’s strong objections.
As the story unfolds, the film dives deep into themes of prejudice, familial loyalty, and the heavy burden of concealed secrets, effectively capturing the socio-economic changes sweeping through the Hawaiian islands. The clash between Richard’s traditional values and Sloane’s quest for autonomy creates a dramatic narrative that resonates with viewers.
The film also showcases the beautiful Hawaiian landscape, contrasting the idyllic setting with the emotional turmoil faced by the characters. This duality serves to amplify the film’s exploration of personal and societal change.
With its rich themes and strong performances, Diamond Head remains a thought-provoking examination of family dynamics against the backdrop of a culturally evolving paradise.

Saw this in the theater. It has aged poorly, a full feature length predicable soap opera. Chakiris was a cringeworthy actor.
The moral of the movie is It’s rough owning Lanai
1:32:56 not that it matters but Kings Girlfriend isn’t Polynesian. She’s East Asian but Hawaii has/had as many Filipino and Japanese people living there. But then Bobby Darrin isn’t Hawaiian either
31:02 my friend Ian has that same car. It’s a Jaguar Roadster I forget the year. Early 50’s ?
“King” That’s a nice name 🤔I guess they are fashioned after the Robinson cattle ranch who still dominate Lanai
Yvette Mimieux! nice name. Very feline. I noticed just how beautiful
she was back in the 60’s when I was young. Now I remember why
When he was asked to a sequel to the planet of the apes he said I don't want to continue movie like Andy hardy films so give my pay check to charity and I do small part at the beginning and end of the second film
Beautiful scenery and a reminder of what Hawaii was in the last 1950s when pineapple plantations dotted the landscape before tourism was a thing and before overdevelopment.
Thank you for this video, very enlightening!
As the great Charlton Heston used to say, “From my cold, dead hand…”
Thank you so much for posting this film. I remember having to watch this in a history of fashion design. The professor featured Mai Chen's (France Nuyen) mandarin gowns (qipao) as a study of the traditional brocade silk style before they became more form fitting as the cheongsam. Sewing a qipao was challenging!
Unfortunately, ad interruptions every 5 minutes.
It’s shaping up to be an interesting movie: sibling friction, colour prejudice, bloodlines.
Good movie. Class struggle..even today.
Poor Sound.
What a high-drama, moody pain in the ass he is. Temper tantrums, controlling everything, yet, being in control of nothing. Racist, breaks up his sister's marriage, stabs his sister's fiance to death, a hypocrite who gets a foreign woman pregnant, won't marry her, rejects his own son, beating people up…he's a real piece of work.
EN PRÉAMBULE JE CITE L'ADAGE *L'ARGENT & LE POUVOIR NE FAIT PAS LE …BONHEUR *…COMME INSTIGATEUR DU CANEVAS…UN CHARLETON HESTON A CONTRE-EMPLOI…DE L'EXOTISME…DES ACTEURS IMPLIQUÉS…UNE MISE EN SCÈNE ÉLÉGANTE….A VOIR
Diamond Head, one of my favrite movies. Charleton Heston the utimate 'HE MAN!'

Great classic ❤❤❤please english subtitle
Nice flannel nightgown on the female elder😂
Blended races, some day all races will be blended.
"What's the harm in that?" said the blonde.
How annoying. Only a 1960's movie would give an ignorant line to a pretty inmature blonde girl.
Hollywood's take on interracial relationships.
I wish I lived in Hawai'i back then.
Impressive Movie
