The doner kebab has long been a beloved dish in both Germany and Turkey, but in recent months it has become the center of a heated food fight between the two countries. The question at hand: what exactly constitutes a “real” doner kebab?
Turkiye has been adamant that the true doner kebab is made with thinly sliced meat that is stacked on a vertical rotisserie and cooked slowly, resulting in tender, flavorful meat. On the other hand, Germany has popularized a version of the dish that is made with ground meat pressed into a cone shape and cooked on a spit.
The dispute over the authenticity of the doner kebab has sparked debates and discussions in both countries, with each side claiming that their version is the “real” doner kebab. Some argue that the traditional Turkish method of preparing the dish is what makes it truly authentic, while others argue that the German variation has its own unique flavor and appeal.
Regardless of which side you may fall on in this food fight, one thing is for certain: the doner kebab will continue to be a beloved dish in both Germany and Turkey, with each country putting their own twist on this delicious and flavorful meal.

☪ It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Prophet said:
“When one of you eats food, let him not wipe his hand until he has licked it or has someone else to lick it.” << Sunan Ibn Majah 3269 >> 🌙
☪ Narrated Thabit ibn Wadi'ah:
We were in an army with the Messenger of Allah. We got some lizards. I roasted one lizard and brought it to the Messenger of Allah and placed it before him. He took a stick and counted its fingers. He then said: A group from the children of Israel was transformed into an animal of the land, and I do not know which animal it was. He did not eat it nor did he forbid (its eating). << Sunan Abi Dawud 3795 >>
☪ Abu Sa'id reported that an Arab of the desert came to Allah's Messenger and said:
I live in a low land abounding in lizards, and these are the common diet of my family, but he (the Holy Prophet) did not make any reply. We said to him: Repeat it (your problem) and so he repeated it, but he did not make any reply. (It was repeated thrice ) Then Allah's Messenger called him out at the third time saying: O man of the desert, verily Allah cursed or showed wrath to a tribe of Bani Isra'il and distorted them to beasts which move on the earth. I do not know, perhaps this (lizard) may be one of them. So I do not eat it, nor do I prohibit the eating of it. << Sahih Muslim 1951b >>
I like my Döner with no salad nothing just meat and tzatziki sauce.
Are germans even capable of creating a worthwhile food that is palatable. Yaaa
Better than the shawarma here in SE Asia: 1/5 meat, then stuffed with cucumber and tomato. You're lucky if you can even taste the kebab meat.
