“Elles et Moi” is a poignant romance film set in January 1939 during the aftermath of the fall of Barcelona and the defeat of the Republican forces in Spain. The story follows the Esteva family, who are among the 500,000 exiled republicans who flee to France. While the men are disarmed and interned in camps, the families are dispersed to makeshift centers in Ardèche.
The film focuses on the struggles and survival of the Esteva family, particularly on Pilar, who is determined to protect and raise her children Isabel and Ignacio amidst the chaos of war. Lluis, the head of the family, refuses to accept defeat and keeps dreaming of reclaiming their homeland. As the years go by, Isabel becomes a world-renowned fashion designer and looks back on the turbulent times they endured.
Directed by Bernard Stora and written by Lény Bernard and Bernard Stora, the film features a stellar cast including Ariadna Gil, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, and Danielle Darrieux.
