Astronomers in the Netherlands are raising concerns about Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites, claiming that the growing network is disrupting their ability to observe the universe. According to researchers at the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON), the radio waves emitted by the satellites are interfering with radio telescopes, making it difficult for scientists to conduct astronomical research.
The latest generation of Starlink satellites, designed to provide high-speed internet access globally, are reportedly causing more interference than their predecessors. The sheer number of satellites in orbit is said to be “blinding” radio telescopes and hindering the ability to peer into the depths of space.
Despite these concerns, SpaceX, the company behind Starlink, has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter. The impact of the satellites on the scientific community and the future of astronomical research remains uncertain as researchers grapple with the challenges posed by these orbiting objects.
As the debate over the potential consequences of Elon Musk’s satellites continues, astronomers and scientists around the world are closely monitoring the situation. The clash between technological advancement and the quest for greater knowledge about the universe raises important questions about the intersection of innovation and scientific exploration.

And I bet those satellites are collecting more data on Americans and anyone else in the world more than any superpower country could ever dream of.
If you didn't know that the BBC just hate Elon, you might think that his are the only satellites up there…
There are bigger problems inside earth rather than outside it.. please let's set our priorities
Rubbish!
The Universe is for the wealthy you peasants
I have Starlink internet and they’ll have to kill me to take it away. That’s how much I love it.
Hmm, I smell sh**e
He’s doing it on purpose, he doesn’t want us to see what’s coming!🤣
The BBC hates Musk. ROTFL. Radio astronomy has been struggling for decades hence NASA and others working at putting radio telescopes on the far side of the moon.
This is ill informed sensationalistic nonsense.
China is launching a fast as they can, India is following a suit.
If you want to worry about a billionaire, worry about Bezos, he owns your food, your libraries, your suppliers of appliances and your newspapers, and he shows us nothing… All hush hush, treating his workers like crap… Probably owns the BBC hence them always gunning for Musk.
Yep. We tried enjoying the countriside and the stars. Far too many satelites it alarming!!
So all the other rubbish floating around up there hasnt been a problem but a few extra satellites and it all goes to crap. Pull the other foot mate.
Keep free speech alive!
✌️🤣♟️IBM owner/Top Secret engineer told NASA I ain't building that! Rocket ships are a joke, literally. 🙄
It seems BBC (Propaganda) viewers anti Elon
Nope, just his arse
The question you have to ask yourself is, do you want to see💩?, or do you want to see 💩? 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂America is a movie after what he posted about the president now this😂😂😂🎉😢
sorry but it's worth it
Pair or peer? Does anyone care or ke-er? Whatever 😔
Long read, but well worth it.
I've been trying to warn people in aerospace & gov't that musk's starlink is leading us to an inoperable environment in Earth orbit. EM stated 14,000 is only an estimate. Over 60 yrs there are already approx. 11,000 in orbit. There are approx. 5,500 dead, "de-commissioned", broken, "lost", inoperable, etc. sats in orbit. There are approx. 2 million of pieces of debris from 70 yrs of access to orbit. Just a chip of paint took a divot out of the Space Shuttle hardened window. All the major powers have their own GPS networks in orbit (several thousand), w/ more (Jeff Bezos) on the way. Several are planning on sending new GPS networks & abandoning the old ones. The US, RU, China, EU all have them. New sats are going up every few days. Iran, DRNK, India & others. Spy sats., scores of weather sats., gravity study sats. Atmospheric study sats.
There are SO MANY sats & junk in orbit, we're not only ruining our access to learn about space, but we're going to make 10's of billions of dollars of terrestrial telescopes (some not yet finished) WORTHLESS. And all of this is not the worst.
In one month, there were 55,000 "incidents" where someone had to initiate a collision avoidance maneuver…1 month. And each month an avoidance intervention is made, it increases the chance they will have to do another intervention b/c of the 1st one.
If 2 sats collide head-on, each is travelling at 17,500 mph (10X's faster than a bullet). Combined, their speeds (relative to Earth) are 35,000 mph. Now imagine the size & speed of a debris field cloud spreading out at 10, 20, 30 thousand miles per hour. What are the chances of another satellite (or more) of getting hit & exploding into another cloud of hypervelocity space "bullets"? Pretty god-damn high, b/c it'll be spreading out for years, poss decades hitting who knows how many other sats.
Now here's the worst part. NASA scientist Don Kessler, (the Kessler Syndrome/Kessler Effect (1978)) determined the density of objects in LEO are numerous enough to cause an unstoppable cascade of collisions that will make access to space untenable for decades, perhaps centuries. He's updated his study each decade. He's found we've under-estimated the debris & the odds of catastrophe by 50%. He's finding that the odds of something happening is no longer several decades away…we may have one.
It's already bad not being able to see the night sky because of the lights. What's happening to the human being?
Wow we allowed a soon to be the first trillionaire to not only steal the wealth off the backs of others labor, allowed him to not only own the public discord and the town square but to now own the view of the sky.
It is wild west out there in space. Maybe some regulations might be in order.
Oh, I’m sure a South African billionaire is going to care deeply about how you NASA nerds feel…he’s soooo empathic.😂
If elon doesn't do it china and others will. We cant enforce china to stop pollution what makes you think they will be able to stop china from filling leo with satellites
Why do they only include his name when his companies do something wrong
Y she keep mi's gender sir
SpaceX pollution
Skynet is taking over Earth 🌎 atmosphere
the filthee figures at the bbc hate Elon Musk
But spacex starship can send huge telescopes out into space past the satellite 🛰
Give up internet to ppl for dummies to look at something they can never go to or matters
Musk spends all his money on this venture…. meanwhile nobody ive heard of uses starlink… what is going on?
So Elon Musk blocks the view but not the GPS ones or the weather ones or the Bei Dou ones..
All the crap that has been collecting up there for Decades , she says at 2,13 there are , 11,000 satellites , and all of a sudden it`s Elon Musks fault , jumping on the Cancel X band wagon
Not just his ego then 😂
As soon as Elon broke ranks with the mainstream media now they’re coming up with more and more smear campaigns…
What did you think would happen 🤷♂️😂
I think musk stinks
Observation from earth is problematic on many fronts, the future is moonbase observation, we should have been there already.
yeah it's bad, but this not an issue only to do with Starlink. With the Department of Defence's Starshield, China, Jeff's Bezos' Amazon Kuiper, and even Russia looking to put up 1000s of sats, this is only going to get worse. And it's also not like these Starlinks are doing nothing with 3 million users and growing who depend on it for connectivity. The whole industry needs to do better to reduce the amount of unintended radio emissions
Bullshit…the left want him destroied/
How long before Musk tweets that the earth is flat? I bet less than 6 months.
What a sad jealous and misinformed comment section. Whats wrong with you people.
It used to be American to cheer success and innovation and not insult the guy that revolutionize electric vehicles and space flight.
Without him, the Russians would be the only ones that could reach the iss.
Guess what he bought the rights to space view hahaha😅😅
