What's with all the adds, just watched the video from the pyramids, adds every 4 minutes ?
Hey Gabriel, did you know that Christopher Nolan shot some scenes in this area, as well as in some other locations of the Peloponnese like in Acrocorinth, for his new movie, the Odyssey, just very recently? Maybe you could ask some locals about the recent filming, it was a big thing over there.
BEAUTIFUL!
Visit Pylos and the palace of king Nestor !
Can totally recommend the video game Assassins Creed Odyssey if you want to get an idea how Ancient Greece might have looked like. There were a lot of actual historians who participed in making the game somewhat realistic looking. There are many historic sites you can visit including Olympia. I believe the game even has a "museum mode" which allows you to just walk around and learn about the history of certain buidings and other historical sites, if you are not interested in playing the game. Its a very fun game though, and many quests take place during historic events or are nods to stories from Greek mythology. At some point you even get to sail your own classical Greek warship and go from island to island which is great fun!
Thanks for the reply Gabriel, I won't stop watching 👍
Every time he says he's going to have breakfast I wonder what flavor cheesecake he is going to get 😅
Love it!
Beautiful time travel! What an adventure to sneak out into the castle and be there alone with your girlfriend. I love a bit of Gabriel’s romance in that breathtaking landscape! I remember once sleeping under the temple of Naxos Portara with my boyfriend in the late 80s while we were waiting for a ferry to catch the next morning. At that time there was no protection and everyone could sit on those marble stones. Unfortunately, when I visited Methoni I did not visit the castle, I do not know why… maybe I was too lazy or for some other reason. I’m so sorry now that I’ve seen it! I remember that in the main square there was a flower bed with a giant plant of Datura Stramonium, I think it was in front of the school… and I collected its seeds and traveled with them to Italy, despite being a very poisonous plant. Methoni has always given me a sense of sadness and decline, I don’t know why, since I recognize that it is a beautiful place. It’s probably because it’s the end of that peninsula, or maybe I wasn’t happy when I went there. Thanks again for your video. I can’t wait to see the next one.
Great story! Tanks for sharing 🙏👍
xaxa even the locals, don't visit Pyrgos.ok I m kidding but it's rather boring city except from the beaches
I live 1,5 hours away from Methoni Castle but i go there many times over the summer, its my favorite place, not to mention Lefkada is my favorite island! Thanks so much for these videos, you 're doing great job!
I took a Greek art and culture class at UC Berkeley in the 1970s to satisfy my humanities requirement as a chemistry major. It was a fun class and easy since all we had to do was remember what the pictures represented for the tests, easy if you have a photographic memory. Your nice tour of greek artifacts brings back memories of that time.
You were at Niokastro Pylos probably 35 years ago at that castle
Very boring video, just a souless video
cool video saludos
Wow…what a journey you are on Gabriel! So much history – Greek, Roman, Ottoman and your own personal journey. Some very moving moments in that beautiful church as your memory began to tune in and things fall into place. You took us along with you for a wonderful hour! 🙏
I visited there and I got lost big time in all those mountain roads , thank you for the memories, saludos Helleno
24:33 in that case you have to see the film "Les Amants du Pont-Neuf"
Wow! What a homecoming for you. Perhaps reclaiming and integrating an old part of yourself ✨🤗✨🕊️
😊❤🇧🇦🗻🏔⛰
Will you travel Albania and/or rest of the Balkans?
1) Some people age rather well, Gabe. You have aged rather well.
2) I cannot imagine anyone competing in athletics / the Olympic Games … nude.
Think of the injuries to one’s nether-regions! 😮
3) For my money, it is those pyramids in Egypt that GOBSMACK me: The symmetry of the structures, the exact placement of the mammothly heavy stones have stayed indelibly etched in my mind.
Man, the ingenuity … and the resourcefulness was indescribable. 😮
4) Pleased you kept in touch with Rosalind (sp?), for awhile. You seem like a personable Lad, Gabriel. You should attract personable Folks.
I cannot help but think of Mark Twain in your opening picture of you as a very young man and now. Mark was saying in his story (i believe it was Tom Sawyer) how he wait to
have the skin of a man that was well traveled particularly up and down the Mississippi river.( he said it much better😂) i cant help but think he would have wanted to have a visit with you and exchange your adventures
Does Roselind know you have a youtube channel on your last contact with her?
Methoni!! Methoni is great. 35 years ago, entrance was just free and open. So maybe that's why you remember easily getting in?
I've been following you for years. This felt like one of your most deeply personal videos. I can't imagine the feelings you were experiencing at Olympus and the castle. It's incredible how fast 35 years go. A lot of time, but the memories and the feelings persist.
Love the cover photo of this video !
Anyone who's watched Gabriel over the years knows Greece is his favored place to be in the whole wide world.
Amazing video! From beautiful Greece.❤❤❤ Thank you! Gabriel.
Great to hear some of the early 1990's back story!
Methoni castle was incredible when i went there, unfortunately I caught a bus there and it happened to be a Tuesday 🙁 Thank you for showing me what the inside looks like.
a massively WOW video…thanks for taking me to a place i can never go to myself.
The microphone scratching was extra loud and frequent this episode…god lord man….arrrrrr………………I do enjoy this Greece series. It's odd how ugly that last town you showed was.
Thanks for sharing your memories with us Gabe. I still have fond memories of going back to Türkiye in 1989 when I was 14 (I was born there but grew up in Louisiana). It ignited my love for travel. You and I are close in age and I can relate to your experience
love the walk and talk videos
That’s so cool … lucky with the email address… neat how you guys met up just recently
Massive castle!
Wow, magnificent! Would love to see in person someday!
You look great for your 50s
Overcome teaching a lie Gabriel.. rain – is good weather .. nothing lives without the water .. it all lives ,- that we may live.nand eat also. IM VERY BLUNT. TRUTH IS HARD FOR MOST INDOCTRINATED PERSONS – IN THE HABIT OF BEING DECEIVED FROM BIRTH – I AM TOO TRUTHFUL FOR ALMOST EVERYONE ELSE. I WILL BE ME – WHEREVER I GO- I LIVE MY LIFE.
Gabe, I've been watching your channel for years, and there's been so many awesome videos. But I have to say, this might be one of my favorites! I absolutely loved the gorgeous ruins, and that amazing castle, and how you interwove a very personal story throughout.
It's so poignant to think back on days gone by, the people who have come and gone in our lives, people we will never forget because of the wonderful memories of special times we shared.
I'm so happy for you that you got to return to the castle, and relive happy memories! Thank you for sharing it with us. 😊
A great video where you exude feelings of saudade for a past memory. It happens to all of us. A very nice personal video that almost made me cry. Thank you
