Who remembers Daryl Hannah’s character in Splash after watching TV all day, leaving Allen’s apartment, walking out of the downstairs lobby to the street, and when asked “Where to?” by the doorman who hails her a cab replies with her first English (human species) word: “Bloomingdale’s”
They should have done one about Bloomies neighbor- Alexanders! Lol I remember seeing many movies with my mom in those "Cinemas"!
Love seeing older footage of the late Queen Elizabeth.
What ? No one got trampled v
That was my mother in this report. Thank you 60 mins.
I loved Barney's more
I didn't think I was interested until they mentioned all the bread and cheese and bakery items they have. I'll have to check it out if I'm ever in New York.
Such a great watch. I was lucky to have worked at Bloomies for years. I worked in the beauty department for YSL. What a wild time!!
👍🏆❤️Fantastic memories!! I visited NY first time 1976. I was 16 yo. ❤️Love from Finland 🎅👍🎅
If you're an old school sports fan, you'll that Blair Sabol is the sister of the late Steve Sabol of NFL films, which he began with their dad, Ed.
imagine what these people would think if you told them in about 40 years or so you don't have to go to the department store, it comes to you in the future.
how judging and questioning peoples choices as an arrogant news reporter in 1970 can make you stupid in 2025.
Wow, CBS News in its heyday! Morley Safer and Ed Bradley were my favorite correspondents on the show, their story presentations were like no one else's. I haven't bothered watching CBS in about a decade and have no plans to now with David Ellison and Skydance have destroyed the news division, along with Bari Weiss. Better to enjoy the memories of how good journalism was in America before greed, politics and profits ruined it all.
back when democrats created a great economy.
So sumptuous, chic, lavish and eclectic. It was delightful to see a customer sporting the perfect Dorothy Hamill haircut too.
Bloomingdale's is a horribly run, dysfunctional, and poorly managed company. Yes, I worked there. It just gets worse and worse.
We still do cult-follower.
Bloomingdales was fun so was Saks ..but they lost the way ..there were no $20 dress shirts ..it became SO expensive and elite it was too expensive with NO IN STORE LABLES
how times have changed.
This is the New York I’m so sad I’ll never get to see.
50 years later and they still got me, I wanna sleep in a sneaker!!!!
The department store peak of the 80’s was a fantastic time!!! Grew up in the DC area and at a specific 10 year period (from 1977 to 1990), the area was filled with our city flagships and the nationwide stores. Malls were packed and each mall had its vibe and numerous stores were everywhere!!! We shopped until we DROPPED:
1.) Hecht’s
2.) Woodies
3.) Gardinckels
4.) Macy’s
5.) Nordstrom
6.) Bloomingdale’s
7.) Neiman Marcus
8.) Saks Fifth Avenue
9.) Lord & Taylor
10.) I. Magnin
Then at least 10 malls around the Betlway…
Just a great time, and Bloomingdale’s (in White Flint Mall and Tysons Corner Center) was LIT!!!
Then Macy's bought Bloomingdales and Ruined it, forever.
This is me with Macys lol
And look at how beautiful and civilized these people looked… compare these to the trash today
The brown bag
Vanity..
I never made it past Iord and Taylor
