The recent series of explosions caused by walkie-talkies in Lebanon has left at least 20 people dead and 450 others injured, according to the country’s health ministry. These incidents occurred in the southern region of the country and in the southern suburbs of the capital, Beirut.
The latest explosion follows a similar attack the day before, which targeted individuals using pagers and resulted in 12 fatalities and nearly 3,000 injuries. The escalating violence has raised concerns about the safety and security in Lebanon, particularly in relation to Hezbollah communication devices.
Investigations into the explosions have led to speculation about the infiltration of the pager supply chain. Experts such as Melinda Haas, Assistant Professor of International Affairs, have suggested that there may be a deliberate effort to disrupt communication networks associated with Hezbollah.
Justin Cappos, a Professor at NYU Engineering Department, has highlighted the importance of securing communication devices and networks to prevent further attacks. He emphasizes the need for enhanced security measures to protect against such incidents in the future.
Counter-terrorism Analyst Matthew Levitt also weighed in on the situation, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance and intelligence gathering to identify and neutralize potential threats. The recent attacks have underscored the vulnerability of communication systems to exploitation by terrorist groups and other malicious actors.
As Lebanon grapples with the aftermath of these devastating explosions, authorities are working to uncover the perpetrators and prevent further tragedies. The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the country and the ongoing threat of violence in the region.

It is ridiculous to say it was an 'indiscriminate attack'. It could not have been more perfectly targeted. What should the IDF do, approach each potential terrorist and tap them on the shoulder to ask if they are members of hezbollah?
"Teach them a lesson?" You want another lesson?
Not sure how clever this is. Kids and others? Are there a stream of these in civilian hands? For targeted individuals or small groups. More than 3,000 devices right?
