Farmers in Dover took to the streets in a dramatic protest against proposed changes to inheritance tax laws that could have a major impact on multi-generational farms. The demonstration saw a convoy of tractors roll through the town, with farmers voicing their opposition to the potential financial burden these tax changes could place on family-owned agricultural businesses.
The sight of the convoy of tractors driving through Dover served as a powerful visual representation of the frustration and concern felt by many in the farming community. The proposed inheritance tax changes are seen as a threat to the livelihoods of those who have worked tirelessly to build and sustain their family farms over generations.
As farmers across the country continue to grapple with the challenges of modern agriculture, the potential impact of these tax changes looms large. The demonstration in Dover brought attention to the plight of rural communities and the importance of preserving family-owned farms for future generations.
The unity and determination of the farmers participating in the protest send a clear message to policymakers and the public alike: these proposed inheritance tax changes must be reconsidered in order to safeguard the future of family farming in the UK.

Poor farmers to pay more tax for war in Ukraine 😢
Don't try and donate money to the farmers cause or Starmer will freeze your bank accounts Trudeau style.
Tractors vital in flood areas
Can go.where cars can't!
Why does Keir Starmer pay for the whims of Bandera fascists in Ukraine? And at the expense of taxes of ordinary British citizens…
No more tax loop holes.
Fair tax effects all equally.
Living in a rural area I know what it’s like to follow farming machinery but it’s for a good cause so please be nice ! 💕
Rockstars 🚜 treading the 20 speed limit. ❤it 😂👍
It's a pity they didn't ha e a bigger protest about Brexit, which will/has seen more farmers go out of business than the inheritance tax change .
But I don't think they're the brightest people in the country, they let charlatans Farage and Mogg take part in their protest.
Well done and good luck lads
A few ideas and please feel free to disagree, I would like to know what other people outside of my echo chamber think.
1. If weed was legalised then the police could focus on other crimes and you could tax it generating hundreds of millions in tax. That would generate more revenue for public services than IHT on farms.
2. Regrading IHT on farms, the definition of a small business should be based on income, not value of land which is depend on so many factors out of the control of farmers. For example, a small farm in a part of the country popular with wealthy people moving into the area (who buy small parcels of land at premium prices) would be worth more than a large farm in a less favourable area even if the larger farm is a more viable business.
3. IHT for everyone should be payable over a 20-30 year period like a mortgage, meaning that grieving families dont have too rush to sell assets to pay the government. This is fairer than the current situation and would give people on lower incomes who inherit family homes a greater chance of keeping them.
4. A progressive taxation solution for agricultural land (and homes, but the figures would need to be different). Maybe something like <2mill=no taxation, 2-3mill=5%, 3-5mill=10%, 5-7mill=20%, 7-15=40%, >15mil=60% At least then small-medium farms would be protected and it would make agricultural land less attractive to the likes of Dyson who would still benefit under Reeves' proposal.

I support British Farmers 🇬🇧
Stuck farmer
I love it, what a great sight. I'm in full support of the farmers. No farmers, No food.
And just to rub their faces in it, the wealthy are told "But you don't have to pay any on any on your foreign homes ! Only the peasants will pay !". You were warned not to vote for far-leftwing socialism, but 30% did regardless !!!
Yes I support British farmers for producing our British food. 🇬🇧 But the farmers are not supporting British. Industry. The nearly all got foreign tractors not built in the UK. A lot of those aren't supporting British 🇬🇧
