In southern India, the state of Kerala has been devastated by deadly landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains. The latest reports indicate that over 177 people have lost their lives in this natural disaster, with many more believed to be missing or injured.
The landslides have wreaked havoc on various parts of Kerala, destroying homes, roads, and bridges in their path. Emergency services are struggling to reach remote areas and provide aid to the affected communities, as the harsh weather conditions continue to hamper rescue and relief efforts.
Authorities have issued warnings to residents in high-risk areas to evacuate immediately, as the risk of further landslides remains high due to the ongoing rainfall. The government has also deployed rescue teams and resources to the region to help those in need and assess the full extent of the damage.
The people of Kerala are facing a challenging time as they grapple with the aftermath of this disaster. The community has come together to support each other and provide assistance to those in need. As the monsoon season continues, it is crucial for everyone to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent further loss of life.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the power of nature and the importance of being prepared for such emergencies. Our thoughts are with the people of Kerala during this difficult time, and we hope that relief and assistance reach them swiftly.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday noted that states should take action when an Orange alert is issued and 'should not wait' for it to issue a red alert.
"Orange warning in Kerala was issued on July 29, and a red alert was issued on July 30," the Met department said while adding, "We should take action when an orange colour alert is issued, don't wait for us to issue a red alert to take action."
that the Centre had sent multiple advance warnings to the Kerala government about possible floods and landslides in the state, starting as early as July 23, and nine NDRF teams were rushed to the state the same day.
many lives might have been spared if the Kerala government had listened to early warnings or been informed as a result of NDRF teams arriving in the state.
there are several state governments that have paid heed to these warnings and managed disasters in such a way that there were zero casualties.
“In Odisha, Central government gave a four-day warning before the cyclone … only one person died, that too accidentally. For the Gujarat government too, central government gave a cyclone alert three days before, and not a single animal died,”.
“But I want to humbly say that the same old words that you’re taking here and demanding [for an early warning system] – we do have an early warning system,”. “The Indian government spent Rs 2,000 crore on an early warning system after 2014. All regions are given warnings seven days prior. This is accessible for all people on the website. There are early warning systems for rains, heatwaves, storms, cyclones, even for lightning … But no one is heeding these.”
Many regions have used it and benefited, And as per this early warning system, on July 23 itself, nine NDRF teams by flight left for Kerala under his own approval.
“The Union government did so much, what did the Kerala government do? People were living in vulnerable situations, but were they shifted? Why weren’t they shifted?”. “If they had been shifted, how would they have died?”
After Narendra Modi became prime minister in 2014, the early warning system started in 2016, and India now has the most modern early warning system in the world. There are only four countries that give warnings seven days in advance, and India is one of them.
As much as 10% of state disaster response force funds can be taken by states without permission from the Union government.
“Irrespective of party politics, the Narendra Modi sarkar will be with the Kerala government and the people of Kerala,”
