In a highly anticipated event, the leaders of British Columbia’s three major political parties came together on Tuesday night for a televised debate as part of the provincial election campaign. Premier John Horgan of the NDP, Andrew Wilkinson of the BC Liberal Party, and Sonia Furstenau of the Green Party faced off in a heated exchange of ideas and policies.
The debate covered a wide range of issues that are important to the people of British Columbia, including healthcare, the economy, and the environment. Each leader presented their party’s platform and vision for the future of the province, hoping to sway undecided voters in the final days leading up to the election.
Premier John Horgan, seeking re-election, touted his government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted the NDP’s plans for healthcare and affordable housing. Andrew Wilkinson, on the other hand, criticized the NDP’s economic policies and emphasized the need for a change in leadership to revive the province’s struggling economy.
Sonia Furstenau of the Green Party brought a fresh perspective to the debate, advocating for a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to governance. She challenged the other leaders on their climate change policies and proposed bold initiatives to address the growing environmental crisis facing the province.
Overall, the debate was a lively and informative exchange of ideas, giving voters a chance to see the leaders of the major parties in action and compare their policies side by side. With the election just around the corner, the stakes are high and the competition fierce as each leader vies for the support of the British Columbia electorate.

Why is Rustad even a political leader? The guy is a major quack with unhinged views that is NOT acceptable within Canadian politics. We can do better. Also, he significantly contributed to the reason why MANY young people are leaving the province when he was in power. His contributions have been VERY detrimental to local economics. Also another huge point, Rustad / BC Libs / BC Conservatives is a huge REASON why there have been a humungeous influx of homeless people wandering around over the last 2 decades. We need mental health institutions supporting mentally unstable people. Instead, under Christy Clark's terrible leadership and inaction, she and her party (which Rustad had a huge involvement in), decided to shut down several mental health institutions and gut health care.
Eby does not care about the Green party canditate, his attention is geared towards Mr Rustad. I think the debate did not give much information about the candidates platform. They dont have enough time and when its their turn somebody will interrupt and they will not end up finishing their statements.
NDP David Eby sure showed dictator, aggressive, rolling eyes, focused more on intimidation with John Rustad. Eby sure is fixated on John Rustad more so then admitting failure for the past 9 years.
Seriously? Every legacy media source I find commenting on this debate are cheerleaders for the NDP. The only thing these talking heads want to talk about is Conservative policies. Not once do they question anything that Eby says. Bias is on full display and honestly it's quite disappointing. Honestly, there is no point for any conservative politician to debate until the media stops taking sides.
Green party yessss🤔!!..shes got more common sense then the other 2!!🫡
The Green Party’s lady did very well in the debate, and she should run the leader of Ndp.🎉
Green should be call Soviet socialist green BC , she doesn’t say how to help poor people but how to make everyone equal !! So let’s punish family doctor and dentist because they derive it !!!! 👏
Definitely conservatives !!!
NDP has done enough damage !!!!

Didn't know plastic straws were a campaign platform. Eby took away my rights as a senior and renter to request a public hearing when I face demo viction. The only candidate who is genuine is Sonia, not getting pulled into the verbal slugfest, but focusing on solving the underlying problems, not throwing on more financial band aids. I'm sick of the rich getting richer at our expense, and politicians treating us like children. I work with those seniors who need the in home care. I lost 5 doctors during the NDP. I'm facing demo viction soon because of the real estate Capitalists that own our Province. I can't afford to retire. My friend who worked for the BC Government could. My own NDP MLA doesn't return phone calls. I wasn't sure how to vote this time, and glad I watched this debate. I'm voting Green again, the only voice of reason for us and the environment. 🇨🇦🦋
Eby is not aware he wears the same smugness Christy Clark had that caused her to lose the riding to him. I love this elections arcs.
I agreed with some of the things that each of these candidates said but I also disagree with a lot of what each of them said.
I want a candidate that knows climate change is real but understands that it’s possible to do more harm to our society by adopting low carbon solutions. The risk vs. reward needs to be fleshed out.
I also want a candidate that has a desire to find and understand the core reasons for our province’s mental health and drug problems, why they skyrocketed during 2012, and why identity politics has risen with it. I’d like to see a proactive response instead of patching problems after they’ve already manifested.
I want a candidate that stops pretending there is a land shortage in BC and allow people to homestead on crown land if they choose to.
Does anyone talk about burned out family members who care for seniors who age in place and how they can be supported?
Prohibition never worked. Legalize regulate and tax the only way same as alcohol marijuana and cigarettes. If organized crime drug dealers are put out of business. Using taxes for rehab and all Heath related expenses
If I am unable to raise rent between tenancies in order to keep pace with inflation, I am more likely to remove the rental house from the market.
Eby has whined his way throughout this campaign. What a way to close your position by name calling; but that's all NDP can do at this point. I'm glad Rustad took the higher road.
Wow, I came here to see a debate, not a murder. Eby destroyed Rustad. Furstenau was strong. Rustad is a clueless joke.
This is the most biased media analysis I've ever seen! I can't wait for the blue wave to wipe your biased coverage out of a job.
Drove through East Hastings today not sure what planet Eby is living on.
Eby spent the entire day rehearsing his attack on Rustad instead of standing on his failed leadership on crime , homelessness, overdose deaths, closed ERs and hospitals , large deficits , not a single infrastructure project on time and billions over budget.
Rustad and his last government left the province in a mess and were in power for almost double the NDP has been here trying to clean up the mess. If it takes 10 years to get there it will take 10 years minimum to come back.
Premier @Dave_Eby, your silence on Home Share providers' struggles is deafening. We've sent numerous letters detailing our financial hardships, yet receive no response. CLBC's inaction compounds the problem. Home Share is critical for adults with disabilities. We need urgent support and policy changes. When will you address this crisis?
Eby nailed it
Racism, climate change denial, plastic bags and straws (!), antivaxx, anti science , anti innovation, anti-human rights, anti indigenous, anti immigration, anti social policies, divisive Rustad is a threat to decades of progress we made as society !
Im an 2019 millennial immigrant that has started an successful business shortly after migrating. I'm adding to the GDP and community. If Eby gets in again, that'll be the last straw, good by BC, I'll take my business snd first home deposit to a BLUE province. Established boomers wont care now. But they will when they are older and depending on the provincial government 😅
