“Gidget” (1959) is a delightful coming-of-age film that captures the effervescent spirit of youth and the burgeoning surf culture of the late 1950s. Starring Sandra Dee in her iconic role as the titular character, Gidget is a teenage girl whose life transforms when she first discovers the joys of surfing.
Set against the sun-kissed backdrop of Malibu, the film follows Gidget as she navigates the complexities of adolescence, including newfound friendships, adventure, and her initial experience with love. Her charming encounters with the laid-back surfer Moondoggie, played by James Darren, add a layer of romantic intrigue that resonates with teen audiences of the era. Cliff Robertson delivers a memorable performance as The Big Kahuna, providing comedic contrast to Gidget’s youthful exuberance.

It remains an essential viewing experience for both cinephiles and those seeking a nostalgic journey to simpler times.

It was a long time age. I arrived in 1961, Malibu was very rustic at the time. I could be wrong but the surf locations look like Sequit, South of Pt Mago North of Broadbeach.
Much better movie than I thought it would be. I would have loved to live that way in the sixties, for a summer or two…
Fun movie and brings back great memories. Wish they made movies this wholesome and normal again. Lol. ❤😊
Given the comments here, it would appear that the strong feminist theme of "Gidget" certainly resonates with today's women.
I really liked this move growing up. This really brings back memories. ❤❤❤❤❤
In 1959 (when the film "Gidget" was shot) parents believed it was inadvisable to allow their 16 year old daughters to go alone to a "beach party" at night. They feared that the atmosphere created by the moon over the sea and meeting with a handsome stranger might lead their daughters to become involved in an "intimate situation" with a boy which could bring about afterwards irreparable consequences. I cannot be more specific. I hope you will understand what I mean.
This was the greatest movie.
What a great movie! 👏👏👏
old movie with a good watch
Quite ok
Hi, I'm the Big Kahuna Burger. Surfed 50 foot tall concrete hills for 20 years, never got a scratch. That kind of surf is do or die every day.
Oh wow thank you so much for sharing this classic movie with everyone, I watched that so many times when I was young ❤oh the memories❤❤❤
Love this movie. Had a baby crush on James Darren back in the day.
As one who was a teenager in the late 60s and didn’t try surfing till the early 70s, it’s hard for me to believe the haircuts I'm seeing on the guys, and the size of those giant boards. And surfing always took many hours of very short rides. It was never easy, as this film makes it appear.
These old shows movies bring back normalcy that we've lost🥀
♥️👌
Loving this movie this is good old TV thank goodness for the reruns♥️
😘
Love all these films love james darren sandra dee was always great in movies.still watching in 2025.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Brings back memories for sure. Loved seeing it again!
Sandra Dee looked so angelic. She had the face of a cherub. She and James had such a strong chemistry. He said he tried to ask her out but her mom kept saying no. Maybe she didn't like him because he was married then got separated just before working on the movie.
I saw this last week but I thought it was fake, so I skipped it. Thank goodness I saw it again today and clicked it. Thank you so much for uploading it! I absolutely love Sandra Dee, James Darren and this movie!
This movie was cool before The Beach Boys popularised surfing culture
that was soo cool how he shoots the curl w/gidget laying on the board…so fun.
Loved it! Thank you.
That sort of behaviour on the beach by the males would certainly not be allowed today….the world has moved forward😀
What a horribly sexist movie. No manners. The men are just animals.
When women were more classy..and men respected them
Great times … always loved this movie

Sorry, I didn’t give it too long. How could ONJ be compared to Sandra Dee …. No comparison.
Little known fact: Sandra Dee, James Darren, and Cliff Robertson were not professional surfers! It was all done with state-of-the art special effects and just good acting talent! Way to go, kids!
