President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to appoint Michel Barnier as France’s new prime minister has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with many seeing this move as sidelining the traditional ‘republican front’ that has dominated French politics for decades.
Barnier, a veteran conservative and Brexit negotiator, is seen as a far-right ‘king-maker’ who could potentially reshape the political landscape in France. His appointment comes at a time of intense political turmoil, with Macron’s presidency facing widespread criticism and protests.
The decision to appoint Barnier is seen as a risky move by Macron, as the 73-year-old will have to navigate the acrimonious and deeply split hung parliament in order to govern effectively. Many are concerned that Barnier’s appointment could further polarize an already divided country.
As Macron seeks to end the political turmoil that has engulfed his presidency, the appointment of Barnier as prime minister represents a bold move that could have far-reaching consequences. The French people will be closely watching to see how Barnier navigates the challenges ahead and whether he can bring a sense of stability to the country’s political landscape.

XD far right 👍 yeah we heard the woke elites enough
I'm shocked- shocked I say- to hear that Macron would always turn to the right no matter what the voters or assembly proposed.
I think the headline is rather naïve – The far right isn't the kingmaker, Macron is choosing Barnier to weaken the far right by trying to draw away their support – just like Scholz in Germany is trying with a harder line on immigration, just like a whole bunch of other governments are trying. Less than 30% of voters voted for the Left, if they were in government the far right would grow even more popular. as immigration and crime would not be tackled and would get worse and worse.
EPP in power again in France
Tnx Macron, great 3-D chess play
Barnier daft enough to accept the role knowing that a far-right minority was pulling the strings. How long will France continue to tolerate this nonsense.
Downside of democracy 😂😂It can be hijacked by a uandful of people
i m mix reaction to this but macron play fire too much
Bring monarchy back in france 🇫🇷
