”America Boxed In,” directed by Casey G. Williams and Ian S. Williams, is a compelling documentary that delves into the profound impact of the freight container on global dynamics.
This unassuming metal box has not only revolutionized international trade by transforming distant nations into immediate neighbors but has also ushered in unparalleled economic prosperity. However, this interconnectedness brings forth significant challenges, including power shifts from governments to non-state actors, political system divisions, and the transfer of wealth and influence from Western to Eastern states.
The film critically examines these pivotal issues, shedding light on the complex consequences of globalization in our contemporary world.
Winner of 51 awards and 4 nominations.

@BEST DOCUMENTARY PLEASE GET RID OF THE BACKGROUND MUSIC !!
IT'S BLOODY ANNOYING WHEN YOU PLAY MUSIC WHILE SOMEBODY IS SPEAKING!!
This is a good documentary. However the idea that tribalism is optional is a bit silly.
I live over there and you live way over there… obviously we're both going to try and get the best offer for ourselves and at some point one of us is going to get the better deal.
When you where a kid? Your room is yours and your brothers is there's. We don't go in each others spaces, but outside the house? We're a family and stick together. I see humanity like this. In space? we're just a small blue thing in the vastness of nothing and should share a space station and try to help each other out if any of us get stranded up there. Down here though? We all have our own spaces and can pretty much fight and argue for our own best interests as long as we don't genocide anyone or nuke each other. Sometime it's complicated we don't share all the same responsibilities or values and the only solution is to see who get's tired first.
I think We simply created a financial engine to create cheap money to lend out to developing countries that has messed up the way we trade in the post industrialized world. The second world war was bad and ruined everything and so we figured out infinite lines of credit would help rebuild and keep everyone from feeling to punished or destitute. Kind of worked for Japan and other places, but it doesn't make sense to be this dependent on one another for necessary everyday items and plastic trinkets in the year 2026 as Ai and other innovations are supposedly going to change the job markets and increase productivity and output.
With only the best motivations we've created the only possible thing that could cause a Global great depression, the collapse of the Dollar, but maybe if we really do all have enough knowledge to design systems to house, feed and cloth ourselves effectively and comfortably without so much interdependence we can make real economies that actually serve us rather than make us slaves to the whims of international market demands? Obviously we'll have to trade oil, crude ores lumber, grains and other raw materials to maintain our own stockpiles, but infinite lending with no real accounting mechanisms and the systems that make the third world seek out the dollar to avoid the devaluation of there own currencies needs to end. The western world is only partially capable of being the worlds financial engine when we ourselves can only sell debt and death. We are different people even if we do live in the same house and I'm not sure if the Dollar can hold as the world reserve for another 10 years of spending deficit and a hollowed out economy.
The metal box is such a powerful Alchemical device for turning junk into gold that it obscured what the actual value of the items you put in was prior.
