Hundreds Rescued by US Army Helicopter from Flooding in Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon National Park was the site of a tragic incident as the body of 33-year-old Chenoa Nickerson was recovered after she disappeared in a flash flood. Nickerson, a resident of Gilbert, Arizona, was found by a group rafting down the Colorado River through the famous canyon.

The recovery effort was a challenging one, with park rangers utilizing a helicopter to transport Nickerson’s body to the rim, where it was then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s office. The flood had trapped several hikers in the area above and below Beaver Falls, a popular series of waterfalls that are a major tourist attraction.

The Grand Canyon, known for its stunning views and natural beauty, is also prone to flooding that can quickly turn its iconic waterfalls a muddy brown. The tragic event serves as a reminder of the power and unpredictability of nature, and the importance of taking precautions when exploring such natural wonders.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and provide support to those affected by the flood. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Chenoa Nickerson during this difficult time.
