In Walthamstow, anti-racism protestors outnumber far-right demonstrators.

Anti-racism protesters in Walthamstow outnumbered far-right extremists in a show of unity and strength on Wednesday night. Despite threats of violent protests from anti-immigration groups outside law centers providing advice to immigrants, the far-right were nowhere to be seen as thousands of counter-demonstrators gathered in the streets of east London.

Chants of “Whose streets? Our streets!” and “Free Palestine” filled the air as the anti-racism campaigners made their presence known. In Sheffield, about 500 anti-fascist demonstrators gathered with no sign of the far-right, while in Southampton, 200 anti-racism campaigners outnumbered the 50 anti-immigration protesters.

The strong show of solidarity and unity against racism and extremism showcased the power of community coming together to stand up for what is right. The police were prepared for the worst, but the peaceful demonstration by the anti-racism protesters proved to be a powerful force in driving out the far-right extremists.

It is important for communities to continue to show up and speak out against hate and discrimination, and events like these are a reminder of the strength in numbers when fighting for a more inclusive and compassionate society.
