Ina Garten and Christine Baranski Make Weeknight Bolognese | Be My Guest | Food Network
In a charming escape to East Hampton, culinary icon Ina Garten invites the multi-talented Christine Baranski into her picturesque barn for an afternoon filled with laughter, stories, and, of course, delectable food. In this delightful episode of Be My Guest, the two charismatic figures embark on a culinary journey that promises to transport viewers straight to Italy. With the unmistakable flavors of home-cooked meals, they’re crafting a Weeknight Bolognese paired with Roasted Broccolini—dishes perfect for Christine to recreate at her Tuscan-style home.
The Heart of Bolognese
Bolognese sauce, with its rich flavors and comforting texture, is a classic Italian staple. It’s more than just a recipe; it’s an invitation to gather around the table, share tales from the heart, and create memories. Ina proves that making this luscious sauce doesn’t have to be a time-consuming affair, demonstrating her signature approach to effortless entertaining.
Ingredients for Weeknight Bolognese:
- 2 tablespoons good olive oil, plus extra for cooking the pasta
- 1 pound lean ground sirloin
- 4 teaspoons minced garlic (about 4 cloves)
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 1/4 cups dry red wine, divided
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes, preferably San Marzano
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 3/4 pound dried pasta (like orecchiette or small shells)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves, lightly packed
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving
Cooking Instructions
-
Sauté the Meat: Start by heating 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large (12-inch) skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground sirloin, using a wooden spoon to crumble the meat as it cooks for 5 to 7 minutes until it’s browned and no longer pink.
-
Add Flavor: Stir in the minced garlic, oregano, and red pepper flakes, letting it cook for another minute until fragrant.
-
Deglaze and Simmer: Pour in 1 cup of dry red wine, scraping the skillet to lift any browned bits, which adds depth to the sauce. Next, incorporate the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Bring it all to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
-
Cook the Pasta: As the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add a splash of olive oil and your choice of pasta, cooking according to package instructions.
-
Finish the Sauce: After the pasta has been cooking for about 8 to 10 minutes, add the ground nutmeg, basil, remaining 1/4 cup of wine, and heavy cream to your sauce. Let it develop flavors as it simmers and thickens.
-
Combine and Serve: Once the pasta is cooked, drain it and place it in a large serving bowl. Pour the Bolognese sauce over the pasta, adding 1/2 cup of freshly grated Parmesan. Toss well to combine and serve hot, with extra Parmesan at the side for those who desire a little more decadence.
A Touch of Italy at Home
With its robust flavor and creamy texture, this Weeknight Bolognese is a true crowd-pleaser that’s perfect for busy evenings yet sophisticated enough for an elegant dinner. As Ina and Christine share their thoughts on love, Broadway, and the Italian dream, viewers are not only treated to a cooking lesson but an intimate glimpse into friendship and warmth at the dinner table.

If I have one very minor criticism of Ina, aka Goddess #2, it’s that she over oils her roasted veggies to the point of them “frying” in the oven, as opposed to roasting. After hundreds of rounds of “Ina’s roasted vegetables” over the years, I gradually have cut way back on the oil, and the results have been great.
I love these "collabs"!
I love la Christine Baranski!
👍🏆❤️Love Christina Baranski! Love Ina!! Thank You ladies. Love from Finland 🏆👍
She is my favorite actor! ❤❤ so stylish and classy. Loved her in The Good Wife !
I'm a big fan of this actress.❤ That looks so delicious!
Don't know where you got the recipe from, but that's NOT a true Bolognese, especially by using Orecchiette pasta. Mamma mia! You're about to ignite a civil war 😂😂😂
love Christine – would have enjoyed hearing more about her life!!! Also, Italians pronounce the "e" at the end. My father (from Venice) spent a lot of time correcting my Italian. My family is now in Venice and Rome. Many words have their vowels cut off here in America – my father would slap my hands if I pronounced them that way. Anyone from South Italy – curious about their pronunciations
Sad that she allows celebrities but not the one person who is sick and wants to meet her. 😢
Ina. Thank you for your wonderful kitchen experiences. As a southern Italian orecchiette are served with broccolini, no red sauce, and bolognese with a flat wide pasta. Please check pronunciations for the correct Italian diction instead of using a French slant. Thank you
Are you going to have your friend Emily Mortimer on? I’d love to see her! ❤
It’s not easy rolling those rrrrrrrs, not for me anyway, Americans don’t pronounce rrrrrrs that way! It’s a tough one! 😊
When she belted out "Broccolini!!!"….a la opera…I lost it
These type of videos – to everyone except Americans – are absolutely excruciating to watch: a total stranger shoved into the home of Ina Garten just so they can pretend to be friends and cook together. Truly dreadful. Ina is so talented in her own right and she and Jeffrey are all the 'talent' the show needs, trust me.
Christine was awesome singing that! Oh snap! She's ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Real bolognese is made with reduced white wine then reduced milk and then timatobsayce
Love Christine!!
Love this video.
This was most boring 7 minutes of my life
Love this ❤
Love this ❤
Love u both
Who knew Christine Baranski has a beautiful singing voice!
A delectable looking Sugo but afraid it’s not a Bolognese sauce, Mid week or Sunday. Interestingly, there is no garlic in a Bolognese sauce. Or red pepper for that matter.
I really wish that Ina Garten was my best friend.❤
I love Christine Baranski! So talented!!
I don't know what that was, but it was no Bolognese without the sofrito.
I loved her in the Birdcage.
Not sure if you should be adding Hollywood types who had shows that were LEFT leaning in nature, be part of your brand. It might not be a good look for all future options. Just sharing to keep your channel growing and enjoyable for all.
That's some boozy pasta🍷 💅
Finally Ina traded in her denim shirt she has worn everyday for the past 30 years for a black shirt she can sport for another 30 years!🤣😂
Wow beautiful! Mouth watering!
For the Boloniayese if you can’t get organic Beef from freshian caviar fed cows who graze in the east hamptons – store bought is fine.
Baranski is so fake and it clearly shows that she has never cooked in her life. Ina is much better, only if she could control that fake laughter!
Christine is still gorgeous ❤❤❤❤❤
love her
I see Christine Baranski and i just click
That's not a Ragù Bolognese at all ! Sorry.
I like Ina but I hate these celebrity additions. Food Network has gone down the toilet in recent years
I never thought "rose and skinny dipping with Christine Baranski" would be on my bucket list, but here we are!
Yuck….too much sauce and too much wine. Ina you should know how to properly pronounce bolognese. Christine lives part time in Italy and yet she's acting like she's never seen anyone cook Italian before.
This woman is the definition of aura.
Well this is not authentic bolognese they are missing carrots onions celery and the meat should be a combination of beef and pork not saying it isn't good but it's not bolognese.
My two mothers 🤩
Easy to make. Can't wait to cook this
