Doctors at government hospitals in several Indian states have gone on an indefinite strike in protest at the rape and murder of a trainee medic. The strike was prompted by the tragic death of a 27-year-old doctor who was allegedly assaulted while traveling on a train.
The doctors are demanding justice for their colleague and calling for increased safety measures for healthcare workers. They are also calling for improved security measures on public transportation, as incidents of violence against healthcare workers are unfortunately not uncommon in India.
The strike has had a significant impact on healthcare services in the affected states, with many hospitals reporting a shortage of medical staff. Patients are facing delays in receiving treatment, and some non-emergency procedures have been postponed.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by healthcare workers in India and the urgent need for improved safety measures. The government has promised to take action to address the concerns of the doctors, but it remains to be seen whether their demands will be met.
In the meantime, the doctors are standing in solidarity with their fallen colleague and sending a strong message that violence against healthcare workers will not be tolerated.

Maybe a couple hundred years late yet always nice seeing developing nations finally acknowledge prominent issues within their own societal norms
So, why didnt you mention she was a woman in the title- it seems more relevant. It was not about the person about being a doctor- thats just reason people CARE enough to take action.
MEN are the issue- they arrested a male "civil volunteer"?
TRAINEE DOCTOR???? She was a senior post graduate doctor!!!!
Big issue in India unfortunately
All medical professionals must teach lesson to the public by not working for long time. Teach them lesson.
I was thinking that ultra woke media like bbc and AlJazeera had gone into hibernation… Thank god they are not completely immune to peer pressure…By the way, the guy arrested is not the actual assailant, merely a scapegoat charged to protect the real culprits, who happen to be close aides of Trinomool Congress strongman and MLA.
India is the most unsafe country for women in the world.
Come on India!!!😢
There are too many sex deprived men in India.
Gang rapes are unfortunately very common in India.
Thank you doctors for standing up for justice! 🇮🇳 🏴💙
How hospitals supposed to b safe. Lot of strangers come together for a common cause that is medical facility.. Criminals may b there among. Just ensure protection to lady doctors, better dont give them night duty ..

Hospitals and schools in the US are so dangerous that many of them have their own full-time police officers.
The victim was on a 36 hour shift, resident doctors work for over 100-110hrs per week, yet there are no proper doctor duty rooms, changing rooms for doctors, no safety. She chose to sleep in a seminar hall where the incident took place. Toiled all her life only to be killed brutally at her workplace WHILE ON DUTY!
RIP Angel.
