What China’s Military Parade Reveals About Its $3B Arms Exports
In a striking display of power and ambition, China’s recent military parade in Beijing served as a stage for President Xi Jinping and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to showcase not only their military might, but also the growing prowess of China’s defense industry. With a staggering $3 billion in arms exports to more than 40 countries, China’s position in the global arms market is shifting. Once one of the world’s largest importers of military equipment, China has now firmly established itself as a formidable arms producer.
From the outset, the parade illustrated China’s rapid arms modernization, highlighting sophisticated weaponry that speaks volumes about its evolving military capabilities. New technologies dominate the landscape, underscoring a significant transition towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing. This transformation is not merely about bolstering national security; for Beijing, the arms trade represents a strategic avenue to exert influence and project power on the global stage.
The implications of China’s arms exports extend far beyond financial gain. By supplying militaries across the globe, Beijing is not just participating in the arms trade; it is cultivating alliances and partnerships that enhance its geopolitical leverage. The willingness to provide military equipment to nations—often with fewer restrictions than Western competitors—positions China as a preferred partner for many less-developed countries. This strategy not only drives economic growth through sales but also allows China to expand its soft power.
As the world looks on, the real lesson from China’s military display is clear. The growth of its defense industry and the strategic arms trade are intricately linked to Xi Jinping’s vision of a stronger, more influential China. While the parade showcased impressive hardware, it also served as a reminder of China’s shifting role in global geopolitics—a role defined not just by economic might but by military capability and strategic partnerships that aim to reshape international relations.
As we move forward, the ramifications of this transition will be felt across the globe. The WSJ’s detailed examination of these developments offers insight into how China’s military parade is more than a show of force; it is a clear signal of its ambitions in global arms dynamics and its intent to influence the security landscape for years to come.

After watching that, only the stupid will downplay the threat.
People starve, but this leader is proud of his military.
3:55 "Phew! I made it up those stairs". Said the guy second from the right
If you understand the Chinese you would understand that the prime motive is to make money from its defence industry. China will not attack without any provocation bcoz there is no material benefits. Try studying the history of China for the last 2500 years n you will see that.
The US has done exactly what it accuses China of, vis a vis the World Bank, and IMF; to name two post WW2 constructions of American hegemonic power.
Those are all styrofoam
Are you mocking the quality of Chinese-made products?
China's Mars rover has been in storage on Mars for six months, and its space station has been operating for years and still looks brand new. How many countries in the world can manufacture these devices?
Why don't you just use facts?
Come on, we're all adults. Stop acting like idiots.
1:52 And Just A Reminder…. That USA's lion's share of the arms export pie is to facilitate a g3..rn0.c1de and oppression of the people of Palestine.
lets go china
What happened to developing hypersonics?
Those ICBM's are made of Bamboo inside??
It was a well planned rafale ambush
The parade isn’t about selling merchandise—it’s about demonstrating the capability to deploy advanced military systems at a pace that Western counterparts can hardly imagine. Think of fourth-generation tanks equipped with active defense systems, supersonic missiles, and fifth-generation fighter jets capable of coordinating a formation of six drones. It’s the same kind of rapid progress seen in their high-speed rail networks, massive bridges, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Where are the 100 million troops they claim they have?
Keep living in your bubble and believing that their weapons are inferior. Then one day you wake up suddenly that you are so far behind. Need examples? How about their EVs, ship building capability, green energy, rare earth processing, AI, chips etc etc.
Its about historical facts.
These military Equipments that got reviewed were only a tiny fraction of what China have, remember that the model numbers like JY series, CJ series, DF series, HQ series and more are all starting with the prototype 0 to the more advanced forms with number up to 100, this means that the weapon had a hundred variants. China would have a thousand J20s by the end of the year and about 180 J35 while 6th gen fighter are been produced as well. China's 7th gen fighter in already been tested in the near space region. Pretty sure the Pentagon would have more pizza nights🤣.
That country invented Paper, Compass, Gun powder, Printing, Cutlery, Porcelain, Silk, Umbrella, Toilet paper, modern Drones, Paper Money, 5G, modern digital payment system, etc… It developed nuclear weapons alone in the 50s and most recently a Space Station! It produces over 80% of all domestic things the world consumes.
You really dare to challenge China's quality?!
US's versions are still on PPTs
Do you want to guess what triggered China’s self reliance efforts? US sanctions!
