In a recent development in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the Israeli military has reported the killing of another high-ranking Hezbollah official, Nabil Kaouk. This comes just a day after the Lebanese militant group confirmed the deaths of multiple commanders, including longtime Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.
This escalation of violence in the northern front marks a significant shift in Israel’s strategy, as they continue to target key members of Hezbollah in what appears to be a concerted effort to degrade the group’s capabilities. However, some experts are now questioning whether Israel’s actions are not only aimed at weakening Hezbollah, but also at provoking Iran into the conflict.
To delve deeper into this unfolding situation, Peter O’Brien hosted Amin Saikal, an Emeritus Professor of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and Islamic Studies at The Australian National University, for a discussion on Israel’s tactics and the potential implications of their actions.
The targeting of high-ranking Hezbollah officials raises concerns about the potential for further escalation and the risk of drawing Iran into the conflict. As tensions continue to rise in the region, it is essential for all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomatic solutions to prevent further bloodshed.
The evolving dynamics in the Middle East, particularly between Israel, Hezbollah, and Iran, underscore the complexities and interconnectedness of conflicts in the region. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community will be closely monitoring developments and working towards a peaceful resolution to avoid further destabilization in the region.

Is the guest really a professor? Sounds like someone who's totally clueless. 😢
They keep droping
Goading Iran? Are you so afraid of terrorists you have made this a bad source for news. Always hear the criminals side.
The poor French and Europeans, they no longer have news that supports the citizens, only specific immigrants.
Ayatollah is hiding in a bunker 😊 thats so gay 😂😂😂 Netanyahu will pay him a visit real soon
iran will respond into hiding😂 they are very serious
And you forgot that USA has more allies than Iran. Be fair with your analysis
Which capabilities are you talking about?
Iran, HAMAS, Houthis, Hezbollahs are not qualified to get support from Russia, China or NK. They
stink horribly.
Alternatively, Iran could put pressure on Hezbullah to stop firing missiles at Israel. That would be an even simpler solution since Israel di not take any Hezbullah hostages, and did not attack Hezbullah in the first place. Still, if they want to fight, Israel will no doubt fight back.
Vacancy, Experts needed
This ANU Professor is deluded and living in fantasy. Hez won't stop with a Gaza withdrawal
On March 11, 2016, the Arab League classified Hezbollah as a "terrorist organization," with reservations from Lebanon and Iraq, and called for it to "cease promoting extremism and sectarianism, refrain from meddling in the internal affairs of countries, and withhold any support for terrorism and terrorists in the region."
Hezbollah joined the Syrian Civil War. Who do think they killed by the hundreds there? Jews? Americans? Persians? Muslims?
Delusional ranting analysts, what was Israeli's casualties in 1982 and 2006 Lebanon war with Israel, 2006 war was only 66 soldiers killed with undeclared number of deaths on heinous Hezbollah's side because they wouldn't and were not ready to bear the consequences humiliation, your guys are dangerously pushing Hezbollah to total annihilation by highlighting it's absurd capabilities.
No, they are not goading Iran into a conflict – some of this is gamesmanship and part of it is psychological warfare.
The optimism of this guest is unbelievable if not delusional 😂
This so called Professor speaks and lives in dreamland ..i Just wasted my time Listening to him
Lebnon use to be a Christian majority country till 1970. Beirut was middle eastern Paris. See what has happened after radicals took over the country. Now playing victim card.
The guest is deluded 😂
And after all this people still believes Israel’s “self defense” claim 🤣 jews are the only party attempting to stir up conflict at this point. Wake up
Where is sinwar? Sin/war .
Go go black sheep have any soul?
There will be not cut off supplies of arms to Israel.
Who made the missiles that Hezebollah has been firing into Israel in the past 11 months? Why didn't you ask the person to stop supplying them? Why didn't u guys call for Hezebollah ceasefire in the past 11 months?
Would any of u had called for a ceasefire if Israel had been on the losing end?
Hypocrisy will burn down this planet and end humanity very soon!
There should be no ceasefire, it was one before oct 7 and they broke it . There is no guarantee that they will not breake it again, in fact they are vowing to break it again before having another ceasefire.
Interesting play on words by Western media. By definition it's a "War Crime"
too much blah blah
Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc. also use American weapons.
