It only needs to be said that Podgorica is a city that was literally burned to the ground during the Second World War. It was bombed by the Italians, the Germans, and finally the Allies, with a civil war between the Royalists and the Communists that was brutal. So very little remains of the old architecture. Of course, the real and old Montenegrin capital is Cetinje, until 1946. On the other hand, one of the good things is the city's location, a 40-minute drive from the sea and half an hour from beautiful mountains.
Knowing your preferences, I think it would be best for you to visit the municipality of Bar, the old town of Stari Bar and the surrounding area, but only in the company of locals, good connoisseurs.Maybe the third time you come to Montenegro.
The famous Croatian writer Krleza said that Bar is the most important city for culture, medieval culture and statehood of our Yugoslav peoples…
THIS VIDEO WAS THE OCCASION TO READ AGAIN ABOUT THE EDICT OF MILAN ……
Very reasonable prices in Podgorica.
Well, in Podgorica communist apartments are surely not impressive (looks like Chisinau and Minsk), but this Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ looks simply amazing, especially inside (simply wow). Tours of the country mainly skip Podgorica, so thanks for showing us this city. As for history, after the Tito-Stalin split in 1948, Yugoslavia searched for its allies outside blocs and finally founded the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961 in Belgrade (the third world power that opposed both Western and Eastern Bloc although traded with both) – there Yugoslavia's main allies were especially Nasser from Egypt and Nehru from India although there were also Nkrumah from Ghana, Sukarno from Indonesia and (Rastafarian Messiah) Haile Selassie from Ethiopia. Even famous football (soccer) player Didier Drogba from Ivory Coast was nicknamed Tito by his mother as Tito was very admired in Africa once.
0:44 Montenegrin sailor Milivoj Dukić finished his performance at this year's Olympic Games in 14th place :
As i mention you in other comment you can go to Cetinje ,the old capital ,Cetinje and its surroundings were only free territory in Balkans from Otomans or Austria for almost 200 years .Its kind off miracle because it was totaly surrounded by Ottomans and they send many army's to finally conquer it .It was called Prince-Bishopric of Montenegro and its was kind off state off Serbian ortodox church who united all Montenegro tribes there to resiste Ottomans
Such neglect to Nicola Tesla. Americans are sure that Tesla is name of electric car only.
25:39 Material evidence with whom we have issues in Montenegro 😶😶😶😮💨😮💨😮💨
This video is better today…
The prices are also good, I'm going to eat there these days😁😁😁
Hi Gabriel, Nice little tour around the city so quiet the Obelisk was a nice touch something seen everywhere around the world more symbolism. The church was absolutely fascinating it must have taken many years to paint those fiascos it took Michelangelo four years to paint the Sistine Chapel, and he was creating the creation story.
Very nice city. Clean, calm, green and very little graffiti in European standards.
👍👍👍
Cool that the rest of the country doesn't have those crazy prices from before. A dinner at the sea is basically 3-4x as expensive, which is kinda insane
8:44 The statue is of Vladimir Vysotsky. From Wikipedia, he was: "a Soviet singer-songwriter, poet, and actor who had an immense and enduring effect on Soviet culture…. In October 2004, a monument to Vysotsky was erected in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica…. The bronze statue shows Vysotsky standing on a pedestal, with his one hand raised and the other holding a guitar. Next to the figure lies a bronze skull – a reference to Vysotsky's monumental lead performances in Shakespeare's Hamlet. On the pedestal the last lines from a poem of Vysotsky's, dedicated to Montenegro, are carved."
Ok, back to rational food costs. 🍗🍟
That meal at the end looked pretty good what was it? Chicken with potatoes with a drink for 12 euros?
Gabriel, about more northern countries, Czechoslovakia, etc. Etc includes centuries of war and peace on Baltic sea. Englishmen, Danes, Germans, Swedes, Poliaks, Lithuanians and Russians participated. Polish and Russians spoke Slavic languages. Novgorod was an important member of Hanseatic League.
tanx
I have never experienced so intense driving as in montenegro. I have like the coast very much, love the adriatic scene. Hope to visit these region again
Always interesting. I've seen a lot of videos on the Kotor Bay area but very little on Podgorica, thanks!
102 fahrenheit??? Eggads
13:26 I'm looking at how to translate this 🤷🙂
If my cyrillic is not mistaken, then at 19.40 the statue says "Nikola Tesla"
It's nothing weird to see mix of latin and cyrilic script in Montenegro. It's the same in Serbia, we know and use both scripts.
No.Its not necessary to visit.
the camera is almost always pointed at you. it's not very interesting to watch. show the city and talk against the backdrop of city landscapes
@27:07 $17? Way better than that USA ski resort $20 for a cup of milk and a hot dog😂
Not a fan of Putin, but not a fan of most governments. I particularly don't like the US government system, they pretend to have democracy but you're not allowed to choose who runs for the presidency. That's why I travel and don't look at the government. Look at the people. I am heading to Pakistan in a few weeks and I also want to get to Iran plus a whole lot more. ❤
THANK YOU FOR EXPLAIN THE ACTUAL STATUS OF MONTENEGRO AND THEIR HUMAN IDENTITY . YOU ARE THE BEST . SALUDOS
Better intro. Get rid of the annoying beep, beep, shite.
The situation regarding accommodation is not like that, but a video like this can give the impression that everything is like that. This apartment where Gabrijel was accommodated is not a communist one, but a poor, private house adapted for overnight stays…In Podgorica, there are any kind of accommodation you could want and how much money you have.
What many people mention is the communist architecture of Podgorica, it is about modernist architecture that was current in the world at the time and was propagated by Le Corbusie etc. and there are many examples of such buildings, from residential buildings for workers to villas for the intelligentsia and managers as well as state buildings hotels, sports halls, etc..What many people confuse is minimalism in architecture with communist architecture, and they also consider degraded neighborhoods that have nothing to do with modernism but more with non-urbanism and the absence of urbanism and illegal unplanned construction in the post-communist era and the beginnings of capitalism as communist architecture….Architecture and urbanism are in communism were in the world trend and quality … ///////////////////////////////////////////// As for the Orthodox temple in the video, it looks interesting and powerful, but it is kitsch…As for that Orthodox Montenegrin metropolis, they had some kind of autonomy before 2020, now after 2020 their comrades from Serbia, with whom they worked against Montenegro, abolished that autonomy. The state of Montenegro gave large sums of money for the construction of that church in the hope that the then Metropolitan of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who is nominally a Montenegrin but ideologically a Serb, would be persuaded to separate from the Serbian Orthodox Church, all for the purpose of correcting the injustice of Serbia's occupation of Montenegro in 1918. when Serbia abolished the state of Montenegro, the Montenegrin church, etc. The current owners of that church, the Serbian Orthodox Church, are the biggest opponents of those people who gave money, Montenegrin states, nations, Montenegrin churches, etc. How far does it go, they painted the financiers of that church on the walls i.e. the political leaders of the state at that time burn in hell. That Serbian Orthodox Church is practically a sect that instead of Christ has as its idol a Serbian historical figure from the Middle Ages. The Serbian Orthodox Church follows the fascist ideology from the Second World War
and denies the existence of the state of Montenegro, the Montenegrin nation, the language, the church, etc… With the great financial and propaganda help of Russia and Serbia, and with the help of some gullible civic parties, they managed to win the elections in 2020 and open the door to clerical-fascism. However, from the fall, things will change because their results were disastrous… it was their goal to destroy Montenegro in all segments, but they will not succeed.
USSR — not United Soviet Socialist Republic, but Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The "republics" had even right to leave USSR and gain independence according to the USSR constitution, but of course it was just words, it was impossible to do without consent of Moscow.
THE CATHEDRAL IS A WORK OF ART I MUST VISIT . SALUDOS
8:50 It's a Soviet era mega popular (in the USSR) singer and actor Vladimir Vysotskiy. Not sure why they built the monument in Montenegro though )
Never been to Montenegro but i like what i see.❤
Free Palestine!! 🇵🇸✌️
Free 🇺🇸 from AIPAC ☮️
I'm a big fan of maps, Gabe, so I appreciate it when you use them to show me where places are!
Man bro, the place is VERY uncrowded! Maybe it's just the heat?
WOW that church was magnificent, wasn't it?!
Been to Budva and Kotor. Amazing country and people! Budva is a beautiful beach resort!
